Job Description:
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF BOULDER: Church Organist

POSITION RATIONALE:
-Leading Sunday congregational singing at Traditional services
-Accompanying adult choirs (Chapel and Chancel Choirs), ensembles and soloists
-Providing solo organ, literature for preludes, postludes and incidental music

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS/PREREQUISITES:
-Master’s Degree (or above)
-Ability to work with congregation members, staff, and volunteers
-Ability to sight read and read open score
-Coordinate special recitals during the year, to be determined by organist and Director of Music

UNIQUE MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
-Work with vocal and instrumental soloists on a regular basis for offertory music
-Oversee instrument maintenance at FPC
-Meet with Senior Pastor and Director of Music for planning Traditional services

Other Qualifications Uniquely Required to Successfully Lead This Ministry:
-Desire to create an environment that invites people to worship through music
-Advanced piano skills
-Keyboard (organ and piano) improvisational skills
-A Christian commitment and statement of faith

CHURCH-WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
-Music at weekly Traditional services
-Music at Easter and Christmas Eve Traditional services, including 11 p.m. Christmas Candlelight service
-Rehearsals and performances for Glory of Christmas
-Provide music for weddings and memorial services

HOURS PER WEEK: 15-20
VACATION: 4 Sundays per year
SALARY: $20K-$24K (Salary commensurate with experience)

TIME COMMITMENT:
-Sunday mornings: 4 hours
-Wednesday evening Chancel Choir rehearsal: 2.5 hours (rehearsal 7-9 p.m.)
-Thursday morning Chapel Choir rehearsal: 1.5 hours (rehearsal 9-10 a.m.)
-Rehearsals with soloists or instrumentalists (12 hours)
