Job Description:
City Church has an open position for a part time (20 hours per week) Children’s Ministries Director. City Church launched on Easter 2005 and is the eighth daughter church of Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie, MN. City Church is located in southwest Minneapolis, MN. Our purpose is to Love God, Love Others. We are committed to honoring God in worship, to sharing the hope found in the message of Jesus Christ, developing a community of love, serving as a transforming presence in our community and becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

City Church is a multi generational congregation with a core of families with young children. Each week around 275 (adults, children and youth) worship in two morning services. Approximately 90 of those each week are children (birth – 5th grade) and another 20 are middle school and high school students in the Student Ministry, led by a part-time Student Ministries Director. City Church currently worships at Armatage Elementary School near 56th and Penn Ave. S. The church also leases a Ministry Center (5238 France Ave. S) which can be used for ministry gatherings at various times during the week. In early 2013 the church will begin meeting a newly acquired facility just blocks from the elementary school.

Children’s Ministries have been a strong part of life at City Church and are currently organized in three divisions: nursery (infants & toddlers), preschool (ages 2.5 – preK), and grade school (K-5th grade) on Sunday mornings. Music, drama, and creative storytelling are a part of every week’s lesson. There are annual events that the children look forward to including Easter & Christmas celebrations, serving the community through outreach projects, and summer Vacation Bible School. The current staff includes thirty-seven volunteers as part of the regular rotation and another twenty that are involved in special projects.

The future for Children’s Ministries at City Church is exciting. We have a great group of families with children who are excited to gather on Sunday mornings. Our time is filled with fun, laughter, music and meaningful stories. We’ve hosted VBS for 6 years and this year over 50% of the children attending were from the community, not the church. Youth are engaged in serving with the children periodically and that brings energy and life, as well as providing leadership opportunities for our maturing teens. We meet in an elementary school, and have more opportunities for reaching children and families with the love and transforming message of Jesus.

City Church is looking for a staff leader who is passionate about teaching the Bible in creative and relevant ways to children of a variety of ages and will be able to enhance our existing ministry. This leader should be able to communicate well with children as well as their families. Planning and implementing each week’s programs with excellence will be a crucial part of the children’s ministries director’s job, as well as recruiting and training volunteers. This individual should be a self–starter who can continue the development of the ministry by connecting with families in the church and in the community. They should also be a team player who will work well with other City Church staff which includes the Pastor, Student Ministries Director, Worship Pastor and Community Pastor.

A job description is available upon request. The targeted hire date is on or about November 1, 2012. Email resumes and inquiries to John Sommerville at john@citychurchmpls.org or mail to:
