Denominations: Presbyterian
Church Size: 1001 to 1500
Job Type: Full-Time

Job Description:
To provide excellent pastoral care for the congregation of Glenkirk and evangelical outreach through compassionate mission work in the local communities within an hour of our campus.

Glenkirk has a history of “doing” mission, but we would like for Glenkirk to “feel” mission. By that we mean that we would like for our mission and service to the local community to be visible and accessible to and celebrated by the whole church. Rather than having community service fall to a small group of people within the church, we would like for the whole church to be identified by its compassionate service in the community. We would like for the word on the street to be, “Glenkirk does what Jesus would do.” International mission and support of international ministries will fall under the oversight of a different staff member.

Primary Responsibilities
? Maintain diverse and entrepreneurial community service and outreach. Examples include our work with the Shepherd’s Pantry, our Cargo of Dreams project, our January homeless ministry, Operation Christmas Child, blood drives, VOLT (men’s ministry service projects), Christmas gift collections, Financial Freedom, recovery ministries, and Compassion Sundays. We would like to see creative, new projects launched that engage the congregation
? See that new volunteers and leaders are constantly being recruited into these ministries
? Oversee a small advisory board for these ministries and for appropriate financial allocations. Three year rotating terms.
? Take part in the creation of media (along with our graphics department) that promotes our community service to the congregation
? Oversee the Deacons. This consists of five teams (Hospital Visitation, Ministry of Love (funerals), Financial Assistance, Communion, and Patio Hospitality). It’s likely that 50% of the job will consist of oversight of the Deacons and congregational care responsibilities
? Take part in the Senior Management Team of Glenkirk, working collegially with the staff
? Weekly attendance of the worship service of Glenkirk and participation in those services as needed
? Other responsibilities as assigned

Desired characteristics
? Passionate devotion to Jesus Christ lived out daily, commitment to the authority of the Scriptures
? Experience with management of large and complex non-profit organizations
? Highly administrative and capable of managing multiple projects
? Entrepreneurial and capable of thinking outside the box to enhance the mission of the church
? Capable of recruiting volunteers and building volunteer teams
? Capable of working amiably with a diverse group of people
? Preferably Master’s level work in fields related to social work, theology, or business management
Ordination is not a requirement, though ordained persons are welcome to apply
