Job Description:
Homewood Church is an evangelical church strategically located on a main intersection that gives great community presence and opportunity for growth. The Homewood-Flossmoor communities lie 25 miles south of Chicago. Approximately 85,000 people live within a 3 mile radius of the church. We desire to become a Generous Life-Changing Community who invite people just as they are, and help them discover a relationship with Christ. Sunday attendance averages 250 (adults and children). We have a variety of solid ministries and long to see these reach deeper into our community. Homewood Church is a welcoming church and enjoys a culturally and racially diverse congregation, representative of our community.

Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced servant leader, with a passion and skill set for discipling the flock AND reaching our community with the message of hope and love found in Christ. This person will have a clear vision for local, regional and global ministry, strong communication and leadership skills, a track record for developing new leaders, and a passion for reaching people far from God. Along with this, he will have a proven ability to motivate others to be a part of God’s redemptive work. He will need to understand and work with our existing partnerships with Converge MidAmerica and Converge Worldwide.


Formal Responsibilities

1. Leadership Skills
a. The creativity to envision new possibilities for the ministry of Homewood.
b. The ability to think strategically about opportunities and challenges.
c. Identify and communicate clear goals and effective strategies to achieve them.
d. The ability to recruit, lead and manage key staff to fulfill the mission of the church.
e. Develop an effective ministry team with staff and lay leaders.
f. Realistically assess situations and take appropriate actions.
g. The awareness of and ability to employ current technology for effective ministry.
h. Shepherd and develop the Elder Board and ministry leaders.

2. Communication Skills
a. Strong biblical preaching for life transformation.
b. The ability to teach and communicate God’s Word in a variety of settings.
c. Cast and communicate a compelling and clear vision for Homewood Church
d. Communicate in a contagious way to our larger congregation.
e. Oversee all written communications throughout the church.
f. Oversee effective worship planning and preparation to weekly inspire the church and reach the community.

3. Relationship Skills
a. A strong encourager and lover of people.
b. Effective at interpersonal communication both as a listener and a speaker.
c. Able to develop and employ the unique strengths of others.
d. Able to be a healing presence in conflicted relationships both personal and corporate.

Qualifications

1. Personal Qualities
a. The Senior Pastor shall meet the New Testament requirements for office as listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
b. An inherent grace orientation in relationship to God and other people.
c. Energy and passion in implementing ministry.
d. Attitudes and behaviors guided by biblical principles.
e. A strong devotional and prayer life.

2. Professional Qualities
a. Minimum of five years of experience as a Senior Pastor in a church over 250 people in attendance.
b. Embrace and hold the doctrinal statement of Homewood Church. (https://www.convergemidamerica.org/about/affirmation-faith)
c. A degree from an accredited seminary or Bible College (Masters of Divinity preferred).
d. Experience in and/or a heart for reaching a suburban multi-culture community is strongly preferred.
e. Has had experience as Senior Pastor working Elder Board (preferred).
