Job Description:
Gateway Community Church is an exciting, contemporary church committed to leading everyday people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. We do this by intentionally reaching out to our community, providing God's healing, and growing mature disciples. We believe that every one matters, wherever they are on their spiritual journey. We are a church that values authenticity and relationships. We are seeking an individual to oversee Gateway's overall Care Ministry in order to offer God's healing to the Gateway family, as well as to intentionally look for ways to reach out into the community to offer God's healing.

Pastoral Care Pastor
• Oversees Celebrate Recovery ministry and ensures adequate training and support for leaders
• Oversees and creates, as needed, support groups (existing: Grief Share, Brain Injury Support Group, Between Jobs Ministry) and ensures adequate training and support for leaders
• Oversees and creates a team to care for those in the Gateway family who are sick or in the hospital; makes visits when required; coordinates with Life Groups as the primary means to accomplish this
• Oversees Prayer Ministry, especially as it relates to providing care for individuals needing healing
• Primary responsibility for spiritual counseling when requested, including leading individuals to faith in Christ and helping them find relationships/connections to continue on that journey of growth
• Primary responsibility for emotional/relational counseling and secondary responsibility for marital counseling (Family Life has primary responsibility) when requested; understanding when and to whom to make appropriate referrals (offers primarily short-term counseling)
• Primary responsibility for being on-call after hours
• Primary responsibility for death/bereavement/grief services, including Celebrations of Life (funerals)
• Primary responsibility for prayer requests that ask for a pastoral contact
• Provides care training to Life Groups and their leaders, in coordination with Life Groups staff person
• Looks for ways to integrate laity into ministry area and provides adequate training and support
• Looks for and implements ways to provide God's healing to those who come to Gateway and those out in the community
• Available for wedding services as needed or requested

• Ordained or licensed as a pastor; bachelor's degree minimum, with a preference for a master's level seminary and/or counseling degree(s); United Methodist credentials not required
• Feels a calling specifically to a pastoral care/counseling type of ministry that equips Gateway to provide God's healing through direct contact and empowerment of laity
• At least three years experience counseling in a pastoral or counselor setting; CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) or counselor certifications (LPC, etc.) are pluses; experience with recovery ministries a plus
• Able to integrate Christian theology into pastoral care and counseling; preferably has developed a theology of pastoral care
• A deeply-committed follower of Jesus Christ who is dedicated to continual personal spiritual growth through spiritual practices
• A life-long learner who continues to seek ways to grow and mature in their calling
