Job Description:
Executive Pastor/ Discipleship Pastor

They will be responsible for two primary areas, the business operations of the church as well as development of groups and assimilation into those groups.
Business Operations- This will include day-to-day business and activity that involves our facility care and use, as well as policies and procedures for business and ministry.
Groups and Assimilation- This will include training and facilitating a process of discipleship that produces disciples who make disciples. Assimilation will include implementation of a clear-cut process that moves a first-time visitor toward a second visit all the way to connection with a missional self-duplicating group of disciples.

Current Description:
Business Operations- Lakeland functions with a business operations team that primarily makes financial decisions on behalf of the organization. They also do tasks that involve building and operations upkeep.

Groups- We are a simple church in philosophy, thus we want people to attend a service, get in a group, and serve somewhere. So groups are where we put most of our eggs for the discipleship process. We offer many groups from topical, to book, bible, home, men’s, women’s, 20-somethings, Celebrate Recovery, Divorce Care, MOPS, etc…
Each group leader currently reports directly to the Senior Pastor and at this time little has been done for training and support of our groups and leaders.

Assimilation- Outside of word of mouth, personal invitation, and regular availability to sign ups for groups there is currently no set process for moving 1st time visitors into connection groups.

Our intention:
While we have many people plugged into groups that have produced fruit we know we primarily have a consumerist mentality around our groups. It’s a “come and attend and be discipled” vs. “come and be a disciple who makes other disciples”. Jesus followers are missional, purposeful, and risky. We intend to make Jesus followers not just Christians with more biblical head knowledge.
Lakeland is a fast growing church with much potential, lots of excitement, and anticipation in the air. Now is the time to set the right foundation within our groups. Now is the time to building real disciples within our groups before we get too big and the ship becomes more difficult to turn. Now is the time for the DNA of Lakeland to bleed “we’re Jesus followers on mission, we’re purposeful, we’re in relationship, we’re here to change the world, and we’re here to build an army to bring His kingdom everywhere we go”.

-Administrative- must have skills in organization, strategic thinking and planning, and decisive action.
-Team building- as this individual will meet with people, train, and build teams, they must have good people skills, be a good communicator, and be likeable.
-Disciple-making- if you do not have personal experience in strategic disciple making this position is likely not for you. Sorry we’re not look for theorist, or those who have read a good book on discipleship, we’re looking for someone who has put themselves through the process and are currently living it out.
This candidate is familiar with organizations like 3DM and Exponential, they’ve read books like One Of, Exponential, and Move, they are familiar with Real Life and so on.

Additional requirements:

• Experience in organizational management.
• Dynamic, outgoing and driven individual.
• Spirit filled.
• Ability to recruit, lead, train and motivate volunteers.
• Pro-active & self motivated.
• Pastoral care to group leaders
• Strategic thinker for ministry and organization, budget planning, development of policies and procedures, etc.
• Team player with Senior Pastor, staff members and key leaders.
• Effective communication (verbal, written and electronic) with staff, volunteers, peers and community.
• Attend staff meetings and prayer sessions with pastoral and department staff.
• Vision casting to team in relation to the senior pastor’s vision.
• Other duties as assigned.

Likely Candidates: Former Small Groups Pastor/ Senior Pastor/ or Executive Pastors.
Maybe you’re a Groups pastor who handles organization and administration without a problem. Perhaps you’re a former Senior Pastor that realized you love making disciples and could handle the elements of business, but you weren’t wired to be the lead guy.
Likely candidates would also hopefully have been in a growing church and have been through a building campaign, understand the dynamics of church growth upon church ministry and church culture.

Lakeland Description:
Lakeland is a non-denomination bible church located in the heart of Walworth County, WI. Its location is a blessing in the sense that it draws from all the surrounding cities. (Population of approximately 50,000 within 10 miles of Lakeland) We’re also ideally located about an hour from Madison, Milwaukee, and Rockford, IL. Lakeland is less then 14 years old and in those years has accrued land, has built a beautiful building, and has a solid base of families who’s lives have been changed by the power of Jesus. Lakeland’s vision is to help people discover Jesus and experience life in Him. We don’t like to beat around the bush and play church, but instead motivate and activate His followers to go and be the church. Almost 2 years ago Lakeland hired it’s current Sr. Pastor Josh Amstutz. Since his arrival the church has grown from 150 to 400. Pastor Josh and his wife Lisa definitely are an attraction to young families as they have 7 young children of their own…and no they don’t home school. Lakeland has a contemporary, down to earth, edgy, raw, and relevant feel. We’re not afraid to make mistakes and take risks as the Holy Spirit leads us.

Lakeland has an exciting future ahead. But it’s not going to be any easy road, we’ve maxed our facility and in the fall we’ll launch into an initiative that will stretch our faith for expansion in ministry and our facility. With growth we’re facing needs in all areas, from care of facility to care of people, from space issues and adding a 3rd service to connecting newbies.
