Job Description:
I. Church Description

The Rising (www.therisingutah.com) is a non-denominational church, voluntarily affiliated with the Christian & Missionary Alliance, started in Utah’s South Salt Lake Valley in 2007. The church began with 8 adults in a living room and has grown to an average attendance of 200, with a 2012 Easter attendance of 500, in a totally decked-out (i.e. full coffee shop, high-end multimedia system, etc.), renovated warehouse. Our church seeks to aggressively minister the Gospel with modern cultural relevancy while maintaining the fundamentals of solid, orthodox, Bible-based Evangelical Christian doctrine. We also desire to make a difference in the world through church planting and world relief. On Sundays, we seek to foster a safe and genuine worship environment where people are invited to come as they are and explore the Christian faith at their own pace without fear of being judged – some would call this a “Purpose-Driven” or “seeker” approach, although we might have a few differences compared with these philosophies of ministry. Finally, we value genuine relationships and genuine discipleship, even though such authenticity is often messier than many traditional religious people are comfortable with.


II. Position Description

As of June 8, 2012, we are seeking a “WORSHIP LEADER” who will be in charge of leading an edgy, modern, loud, high-energy (i.e. New Life Worship, Gateway Worship, David Crowder Band, Kathryn Scott, Hillsong, Hillsong United, and the staff member’s original music) worship band with corresponding media applications each week at multiple services. With regard to worship, our church service is modern and non-traditional.


III. Start Date

The position is open until filled. We would like to bring our new staff member on as soon as possible.


IV. Qualifications

All educational levels are encouraged to apply, but a college graduate with significant music, ministry, and leadership experience is preferred. Seminary graduate would be a bonus. Candidate must affirm basic Evangelical tenets, affirm the Chicago Statement on Inerrancy and be committed to working with the Lead Pastor’s vision for our church. Finalists will be sent an mp3 outlining our philosophy of worship and asked to comment regarding whether they are on the same page.


V. Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is one who has a vibrant walk with God, has a pioneering evangelistic spirit, and is in tune with popular culture. He/she would also be a good administrator, detail-oriented, teachable, and willing to work within our lead pastor’s vision. Because we are a church plant, teachability/coachability and the willingness to learn many new skills and be happy performing them is a must. Also, change is a constant at our church, so our new staff member must be able to roll with the punches!


VI. Status, Compensation & Hours

This is a part-time position that “may” grow into a full-time position at a later time. Compensation will depend on the candidate’s education, experience, ability, and life situation. Our candidate will be expected to, at the least, hold one rehearsal per week in addition to leading at the Sunday and Wednesday night services.
