Senior Pastor

Job Description:
West Hills Community Church is a small church with big dreams. We are situated on 5 acres just outside of downtown Westmont including a four bedroom parsonage. Westmont is a western suburb of Chicago with a population of just less than 25,000 people. The community schools and abundant parks are top quality. We are a racially and economically diverse congregation of approximately 60 attendees. We value community and authenticity in our ministry. Our community outreach last November put Thanksgiving dinners in the hands of 225 struggling families. We feel our church is in an excellent area, poised for growth and ready to impact our community.


Job Overview
We are looking for a servant leader, highly relational, with a clear vision for local, regional and global ministry. He will need to have strong communication skills (both in the pulpit and inter-personally), a calling for developing new leaders, a passion for reaching people far from God, and the ability to motivate others to be a part of God’s redemptive cause. He will need to understand and work with our existing partnerships with Converge MidAmerica and Converge Worldwide.


Formal Responsibilities
1. Leadership Skills
-The creativity to envision new possibilities for the ministry of West Hills.
-The ability to think strategically about opportunities and challenges.
-Identify and communicate clear goals and effective strategies to achieve them.
-The ability to recruit, lead and manage key staff to fulfill the mission of the church.
-Develop an effective ministry team with staff and lay leaders.
-Realistically assess situations and take appropriate actions.
-The awareness of and ability to employ current technology for effective ministry.
-Shepherd and develop the Elder Board and ministry leaders.
2. Communication Skills
-Strong biblical preaching for life transformation.
-The ability to teach and communicate God’s Word in a variety of settings.
-Cast and communicate a compelling and clear vision for West Hills Community Church
-Communicate in a contagious way to our larger congregation.
-Oversee all written communications throughout the church.
-Oversee effective worship planning and preparation to weekly inspire the church and reach the community.
3. Relationship Skills
-A strong encourager and lover of people.
-Effective at interpersonal communication both as a listener and a speaker.
-Able to develop and employ the unique strengths of others.
-Able to be a healing presence in conflicted relationships both personal and corporate.


Qualifications
1. Personal Qualities
-The Senior Pastor shall meet the New Testament requirements for office as listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
-An inherent grace orientation in relationship to God and other people.
-Energy and passion in implementing ministry.
-Attitudes and behaviors guided by biblical principles.
-A strong devotional and prayer life.
2. Professional Qualities
-Embrace and hold the doctrinal statement of West Hills Community Church..
-A degree from an accredited seminary or Bible College (Masters of Divinity preferred).
-Experience in and/or a heart for reaching the upper Midwest is strongly preferred.
-Has had experience as Senior Pastor working Elder Board (perferred).
