Job Description:
CBC is in the process of redesigning its ministry model based on an assessment of how effective we have been in accomplishing our stated purpose. Christians learning and living out the gospel in their daily lives is the primary objective of our new ministry model. Consequently, we are seeking a leader gifted by God to transform elements of our existing ministry model, such as Sunday school classes and home groups, to a community life model. This requires a pastor who can envision the future state; inspire people to embrace that future; translate vision to a detailed ministry model; plan the implementation of that model; and lead the activities and people necessary to execute and continuously assess and improve the community life model.

The Pastor of Community Life will be responsible for building a community group ministry within the church body that connects adults of all ages and at all stages of their spiritual formation. This includes leadership and oversight of the other age and gender-based educational ministries. These community groups will promote biblical community through biblical teaching, fellowship, care within the body, and outreach to the community.

1. Develop a foundational midsize group ministry that incorporates existing groups and launches new groups, making the best use of facilities and resources.
2. Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and other leaders to integrate the community life ministry into CBC’s overall ministry model.
3. Coach groups to be intentionally holistic in that they provide application-based teaching, intentional care and fellowship, and regular outreach opportunities for service and evangelism.
4. Collaborate with elders, age and gender-based ministry leaders, and teachers to define the scope and sequence of biblical teaching.
5. Define the roles and responsibilities for how the Pastor of Congregational Care and Pastor of Outreach contribute to the community life model.
6. Create a program and culture of “leader reproduction” for both staff and volunteer leaders, developing leaders who develop other leaders.
7. Offer basic discipleship group experiences for young Christ-followers and those investigating Christianity and overall, fostering a culture of disciple-making through one-on-one and small group environments.
8. Manage all education and community life ministry budgets and resources.
9. Develop the staff under your leadership, building their ministry capabilities, holding them accountable for their stated ministry objectives, and ministering to them as a pastor.
10. Design and execute a regular data-driven assessment of the ministry.
11. Continuously research ministry best practices and apply to improve the ministry’s effectiveness.
12. Conduct a deliberate set of activities to strengthen personal health in spirit, mind, and body

1. Agrees with CBC’s doctrinal views with instincts that match CBC’s ministry philosophy and a good fit with the overall ministry team.
2. Strong theological and doctrinal understanding. Seminary degree preferred.
3. Proven experience building and leading mid-size groups in a church of at least 600 attendees.
4. Exhibits a spiritual maturity and balance in his personal life that is based on maintaining a private devotional time of study, self-examination, prayer; physical exercise and mentoring, and confirmed by a Spirit-filled walk, godly home life, a love of people, and humility in service to others.
5. Possess a broad knowledge related to midsize groups, small groups, discipling, mentoring, assimilation and leadership development.
6. A proven team player with demonstrated leadership skills that can coach, direct, inspire, and empower staff and volunteer leadership teams on several different levels.
7. A person with the heart of a coach who is more interested in seeing other people have great ministry than he is in others seeing him do great ministry.
8. Possesses the heart, intention and ability to conduct CBC’s community life initiative as a ministry by providing pastoral oversight and leadership as he directs staff and lay volunteers.
