Job Description:
We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic Christian with a passion for working with children and youth to be our Interim Children’s and Youth Ministry Program Coordinator who will manage all aspects of the church’s summer programming for children and youth, including:

• Coordinating and supporting volunteers who will staff the nursery, teach Sunday school and deliver the children’s sermon each Sunday, as well as volunteers for the church’s mid-week and Sunday evening children’s and youth programs

• Assisting in supervising and executing Vacation Bible School Program

• Working with the youth, their parents and adult volunteers to facilitate and finalize preparations for the summer youth mission trip to Kansas City and participating as a leader on mission trip

• Attending our children’s week at Camp Westminster in Roscommon, Michigan, and leading Bible study during that week

• Ministering, educating, and counseling children and youth by helping to plan and attending various youth group meetings and recreational activities, including Sunday Night Leadership (SNL), APEX and GAP

• Participating in meetings of the Children’s Council and Youth Council to help coordinate upcoming programs and activities for our children and youth

• Working closely and communicating frequently with our Interim Pastor and Minister of Music and with volunteers, parents and youth regarding the children’s and youth programming

• Helping to ensure the security of the children and youth while in the care and supervision of the church’s children’s and youth programs

• The Interim Children’s and Youth Ministry Program Coordinator will report to the Interim Pastor and will be accountable to the Session of the church

Qualifications and Qualities:

The Children’s and Youth Ministry Program Coordinator must be a committed, enthusiastic Christian with a passion for working with children and youth. He or she should also possess the following skills, talents and characteristics:

• Strong interpersonal skills – someone who is outgoing, charismatic, approachable, likeable, caring, energetic and who inspires trust and confidence

• A willingness to work collaboratively and cooperatively with staff, families and youth

• Highly organized and skilled in planning programs, including careful attention to detail

• Mature and responsible and willing to be accountable for decisions, actions and results; receptive to constructive criticism

• A self-starter who works independently and takes initiative

• An effective communicator, both in writing and in speaking

• An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (preferably in the field of education, child/youth development, or a related discipline) and/or experience leading children and youth in Sunday school, youth ministry, mission trips, camp or similar church activities

Working Conditions:

We are seeking to fill this interim, summer position as soon as possible, ideally by June 11, 2012. There is a possibility for advancement to a permanent position commencing at the beginning of the school year. This position requires great flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends. While the position is considered a part-time, salaried position, the number of hours required are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Therefore, the Interim Children’s and Youth Ministry Program Coordinator shall:

• Be at the church a sufficient amount of time for accessibility to the children and youth of the congregation and their parents

• Keep the church office informed as to how/where he or she can be contacted

• Maintain visibility with the children and youth on Sunday morning

• Check in with the church office regularly for messages

• Commit to being available for the entire summer

Salary Range:

• $2,200 – 2,600 per month, commensurate with experience
