St. Marks Church, located in one of the most attractive regions of the country where the ocean and mountains are just a few hours in either direction, is rich in history dating back to 1855. Its trajectory of growth is realized by the sprawling campus that has been annexed through the years and by its brick structures housing their growing congregation. In the mid 90’s, current lead pastor Bob Disher was greatly impacted by the Willow Creek movement and became the catalyst that brought SMC into a new paradigm of ministry in a region that is typically steeped in tradition. Today, SMC is a culture who’s genuine DNA is “in touch” with real life and relevant in the ways they impact their community with the gospel message.
SMC is a healthy, thriving church that has embraced 21st century technology and methods to communicate God’s Word and build strong relationships among its church body and beyond. Numbering approximately 1800 in weekly attendance, it enjoys great momentum and “critical mass” in its 3 services that meet in a high-tech 1100-seat auditorium. They embrace the arts wholeheartedly, including a band-driven worship environment featuring visual media and, on occasion, other performing arts elements. Their thematic approach to programming is not “over the top” but keeps the elements congruent to teaching that is relevant, engaging and biblical.
The campus encompasses approximately 80,000 square feet of space under one roof, which includes ample children’s and student ministries. SMC is both artistically and technically savvy. The facility has a variety of compelling environments, venues and a video production suite. They understand where they are today and where they are going.
Leadership knows the importance of marketing and branding. They started on a complete rebrand of the church, and after hiring their new Worship Arts Pastor in 2010, they are ready to continue a re-branding process of the church, including vision, values, logos, social media, website and other communication avenues. SMC is in need of a leader who understands how to lead the branding process and champion this effort across all departments in the church. This individual will be able to spread their creative wings across multiple ministries and communication mediums. SMC has also developed an internship program with a local college possessing a highly developed communications program.
They are looking for a creative leader with the right blend of abilities to do the following:
• champion the DNA branding change throughout the entire church
• create a project management structure for communication flow within the church
• develop interns while working with contracted and volunteer creative contributors
• leverage the specific skills of this new leader based around their strengths which could include video production, graphic design, set design, website management, social media and other skills in the creative communication toolkit.
The new communications director will be provided the opportunity to make a significant difference throughout the church in a very short period of time. They will find great satisfaction as a leader, creative communicator and artist.
If you sense that this would be a good fit for you, please contact Rocky Barra and Slingshot Group.
