Holy Cross Lutheran Church

Minister of Worship and Music

Holy Cross Lutheran Church
Livonia, Michigan, United States

Denominations: Lutheran
Church Size: 251 to 350
Job Type: Full-Time

Job Description:
Holy Cross is "a community of faith where people are inspired and equipped for a journey of living lives centered in Christ." Although we are located in Livonia, MI, a fairly typical southeastern MI suburb, something special is going on here! How many other churches have a 40-ft. labyrinth and prayer park as their "front porch"?

We are seeking an energetic, passionate individual to provide musical leadership for weekly worship and to work collaboratively with our two equally energetic, passionate Pastors to facilitate experiences (worship or otherwise) that reveal God at the center and put God's people in community. This person would also be expected to build upon, expand, and oversee a creative program in which individuals of all ages are able to use their gifts in praise of God. We believe that the primary instrument in worship is the human voice, which can be led and supported in many different ways. The current music and worship program includes an adult choir, a handbell choir, and the hearts, hands and voices fine arts program for children.

Qualifications include a demonstrated, intentional engagement in a journey of Christian faith and a passion for music as a servant of the Word, as a voice of proclamation, praise, prayer and thanksgiving. Additionally, the individual should have a minimum of a BA in music or BM with major emphasis in keyboard and/or vocal/choral or church music (strong organ and keyboard skills) and be familiar with and appreciate the basic teachings of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated capacity to creatively manage polarity between tradition and innovation.

Anticipated starting date is September 2012.
