Job Description for Contemporary Music Worship Leader – Part Time

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is seeking a part-time Worship Leader to guide the development and implementation of a Contemporary Lutheran Worship Service. The Worship Leader will work in conjunction with the pastoral staff through the development process with the Worship Leader having the responsibility to recruit and prepare musical and technical volunteers, to lead the musical portions of the service with a high standard of quality, and to assist worshipers in experiencing God’s presence through music and praise.

Prince of Peace, a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, has been focusing our ministry and mission around our purpose statement, “Claimed by grace we seek to welcome all, worship joyfully, grow spiritually and share God’s love.” We have identified that providing a high quality contemporary worship service is one step in fulfilling that purpose.

We envision the hiring of a Worship Leader to start employment during Spring 2012, with the expectation that the new contemporary service will replace the current blended service in September 2012. The contemporary service will occur every 1st and 3rd Sunday at the 10:30 AM service except for Palm Sunday and Easter.

Finally, we estimate that this position will require less than 10 hours per week on a going basis though understand that it will be more hours over the first few months as the successful candidate get the program up and rolling.

Qualifications:
A desire to serve God by serving through the faith community at Prince of Peace.
Experience and ability in leading public worship including leading while playing keyboard or guitar.
Undergraduate level education in Music, Music Production, Music Education or other applicable field
Familiarity with the genre of Contemporary Christian Music.
Ability to recruit and support volunteers.
Willingness to work as a part of a ministry team, relating to both clergy and lay leaders.
Willingness to work within the theological and confessional parameters of the ELCA.
