Position Title: Director, Lakeside Presbyterian Center for Children

Position Type: Full Time; Monday-Friday; some evening events/meetings

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Primary Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Pastor of Lakeside Presbyterian Church (“Church”) and the Children’s Center Committee (“CCC”), and adhering to the responsibilities, policies, and procedures as set forth in the organization of the Lakeside Presbyterian Center for Children (“LPCC”) by the Church, the Director shall be responsible for providing an atmosphere and program in which teachers and children are taught and nurtured, based on the values of the Christian faith. Such responsibilities would include but are not limited to:

A. Center Administration

1. Carry out day-to-day operation in accordance with policies adopted by the CCC.
2. Regularly attend weekly Church staff meetings, as well as monthly CCC meetings; and attend other Church-related meetings when appropriate or requested.
3. Work in conjunction with the Church Session with respect to the development, administration and reporting of the LPCC budget.
4. Direct publicity and advertising efforts on behalf of LPCC.
5. Oversee registration, visitation, admissions and enrollment procedures.
6. Assure proper transfer of documentation for children leaving the program, whether by graduation or withdrawal for any reason.
7. Maintain an ongoing relationship with governmental and industry agencies, such as state and county Department of Social Services and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
8. Apply for and maintain in good standing any licensing and accreditation in such agencies or organizations.
9. Personally attend and participate in workshops to remain updated in curriculum, developmental and administrative programs and those dealing with early childhood education and/or Christian education.

B. Staff

1. Interview and hire qualified applicants; procure substitute teachers when needed.
2. Train and supervise the staff and convey to them the philosophy and policies of LPCC and the Church.
3. Oversee, in conjunction with the Church staff, the Christian education component of the LPCC and supply teachers with the necessary resources.
4. Conduct LPCC staff meetings on a regular basis.
5. Foster professional development by encouraging participation in developmental and educational workshops and programs.
6. Oversee a process of annual performance appraisal based on classroom observation and written evaluation, and review privately with each individual.
7. Maintain a complete and up-to-date personnel file of each staff member, to be reviewed with the individual on a regular basis.

C. Parents

1. Meet with parents at the time of their initial observations or before admission to LPCC.
2. Responsible for parent meetings and programs.
3. Oversee the operations of the Parent Volunteer Organization (“PVO”), encourage parent participation, and ensure that PVO activity is appropriate to policies and in the best interests of the Church and LPCC.
4. Liaison between the parents and Church as well as between parents and LPCC staff.
5. Resource for parents seeking support services from local agencies and be available for consultation with regard to future school placements and proper referrals.


Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
2. Early Childhood Education Specialist credential and six (6) semester units in administration and three (3) semester units in staff relations; or Children’s Center Certificate and a Supervision Certificate.
3. Three (3) years’ experience as a pre-school or early childhood teacher.
4. Currently compliant with Health and Safety Code requirements, including but not limited to training in preventive health practices, training and certification in pediatric CPR and first aid, food handling, caring for children with special needs, identification and reporting of signs and symptoms of child abuse.
5. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
6. Proven problem-solving, organizational, and prioritizing skills.
7. Work effectively and collaboratively with various constituencies – the LPCC staff and employees, Church staff and committees, parents, and the children themselves.
8. Uphold the Christian component of the LPCC philosophy by actively participating in the worship life of a local Christian community.
9. Basic knowledge of personnel, accounting, procurement and institutional policies and procedures.
10. Maintain neat and professional physical appearance; sense of humor and patience, a plus.
11.Successful candidates will be required to pass a background check.



Preferred Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development (CD).
2. Experience in Center administration, preferably in a church-related pre-school program.
3. Experience as a teacher in a pre-school with a Christian education component.
