Job Description:
EARLY CHILDHOOD DIRECTOR

START DATE: 06/01/2012

Purpose:
To recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers and teaching staff, to develop and administrate outreach and spiritual growth programs for young children that partners with “the home” (parents) by adhering to age-appropriate practices and provide support to families of young children.

Position Focus:
Ministry outreach and growth of young children and support to their parents in collaboration with the Faith at Home Team.

Position Status:
Part-time (20-25 hours)

Supervisory relationships and Staff partnerships:
Reports to: Faith at Home Director
Supervises (Staff, volunteers, teams) Ministry Assistant, Childcare Coordinator, Sunday school teachers, summer camp leaders, Messy Art Teachers and Parent’s Day Out Teachers
Partners with: Preschool Director; Children’s Ministry Director; and wider Faith at Home Team

Position Responsibilities:

Ministry Overview
• Develop and support ministry teams that nurture young children.
• Partner with parents in the development and spiritual formation of their young children.
• Develop strategies for supporting church vision among volunteer teams.
• Resource, educate and equip the home (parents) for life and faith through a variety means and communication channels targeting the early childhood years.

Spiritual Development
• Support and model individual spiritual formation i.e. worship, grow and serve (weekly worship, prayer, scripture reading, small group, volunteering, etc).

Ministry Administration and Communication
• Train volunteers and staff in CCOB Protection Policy and program structure.
• Keep documentation and records for the Protection Policy.
• Provide curriculum and materials for programs.
• Attend meeting including staff connection days, Faith at Home Team meetings and other ministry team meetings, relating to Early Childhood ministries.
• Oversee Early Childhood Ministry budget.
• Communicate programs for young children to CCOB attendees and the community.

Current Programming Oversight

Early Childhood Sunday School
Volunteer and Lay Leadership
• Identify, train and develop volunteers and teaching teams for each age-related classroom.
• Provide age appropriate curriculum.
• Oversee nursery staff and teaching teams for all classes on Sunday morning.
• Develop annual budget and oversee stewardship of the ministry’s budget.


VBS
Volunteer and Lay Leadership
• Recruit and train volunteers in their specific area of service.
• Train volunteers on church protection policies and the camp organization and goals.
• Organize camp structure and provide age appropriate curriculum.
• Develop a camp budget and oversee stewardship of the camp budget.

Praise and Play Camp
• Hire teaching staff appropriate for camp enrollment.
• Develop curriculum to encourage the spiritual development in young children.
• Calculate tuition and salaries to form a working budget.
• Orient teachers on the church protection policies, camp structure and goals.

Summer Intern
• Provide opportunities for ministry growth in the area of young children.
• Provide opportunities for individual spiritual growth through the Early Childhood community.
• Oversee day to day ministry needs and provide the support and resources needed.

Messy Art and Parent’s Day Out
• Hire teaching staff appropriate for enrollment.
• Prepare a school year calendar for days of the program.
• Develop or incorporate curriculum to encourage the spiritual development in young children.
• Calculate tuition and salaries to form a working budget.
• Orient teachers on the church protection policies, classroom schedule and goals.

Additional Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience of child development.
• Previously worked on team or with volunteers.
• Familiar with nursery and young children’s ministry.
• Master’s Degree a plus.
