The Development Director role is critical to championing the mission and ethos of Mars Hill with potential and existing advocates and supporters. This person and position is focused on learning, planning, networking, and administrating the activities that engage and enhance the donor experience in order to increase their involvement in the ministries, outreach causes, and new initiatives of Mars Hill.

-Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from a liberal arts college (or appropriate equivalent)
-Experience in fundraising and other development, having a proven track record of achieving revenue goals
-Experience with non-profit Christian organizations and working for these organizations
-Highly networked with Mars Hill community, West Michigan, and other national organizations and individuals having support potential
-Is a passionate supporter of the mission statement of Mars Hill—agreeing to its goals, purposes and objectives
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-Excellent organizational, planning and writing skills
-Demonstrated ability to think strategically and collaborate with leadership on a development plan
-Computer literate, with a proficiency in databases and associated donor development functionality

1. Strengthen Donor Relations – 20%
-Assessing current database info and reports, developing feedback loops to learn the current mindsets
-Cultivating and nurturing relationships with current donors and partnership constituents [e.g. 20 Liters]
-Provide tours, introductions to staff, etc. for fostering heightened awareness and engagement

2. Planning – 15 %
-Working with the Communications Director and Mars Hill leadership on a strategy and communication plan including:
--Establishing yearly financial goals for existing and new supporters
--Identifying new donor prospects with giving potential of $5000+
--Developing a plan for re-activating lapsed or disconnected donors
--Assessing revenue to communication tactics for adjustments and subsequent year planning

3. Networking and revenue building – 60%
-Cultivate and nurture relations with prospective donors and audiences identified in the communication plan
-Attending Mars Hill, 20 Liters, and other pertinent ministry events
-Attending area-wide events and activities for relationship building and assessing support interest
-Present specific funding requests that are appropriately matched with constituents, including follow-up personal correspondence (thank-you notes, emails, etc.]

4. Administration | Personal development – 5%
-Documenting activity with existing and potential donors in database and keeping a schedule of activity
-Providing updated verbal and written reports to leadership on activity and outcomes
-Attending staff meetings, participate in ministry team meetings for sharing of ideas, feedback, and planning
-Dedicated and ongoing attention to professional development and personal growth

Position Status: Full-time, 40-45 hours weekly
