Job Description:

The Worship Pastor serves as a key part of the Worship Ministry, reporting directly to the Lead Worship Pastor. The main focus of the position is to enhance the overall worship experience at Eastern Hills Community Church through engaging in worship-related roles including leading and planning weekend services. The Worship Pastor also participates in and directs a wide range of activities including recruiting, equipping and building community among Worship Teams. In addition, this position is closely aligned with the Lead Worship Pastor in general development of worship within the church body.


A. Worship Leadership
1. Leads worship for all services 1 to 2 weekends each month and participates as needed other weekends.
2. Leads the scheduling of Worship band members, including weekly responsibility for filling vacant spots.
3. Leads worship, as necessary, at a variety of venues and special events within EHCC.
4. Researches new worship songs and recommends appropriate songs for services.
5. Charts new songs and transposes existing songs.
6. Consults and assists in the planning of other specific assignments and special events needing worship.
7. Seeks to raise-up and release worship leaders for various services within the EHCC community.
8. Works with the choir director and choir for seasonal performances.
9. We would like this to be mostly a full time position but are open to the possibility of part time.

B. Planning/Team Leadership
1. Recruits, builds relationships and trains new musicians in specific areas related to their giftedness and ministry assignments.
2. Plans and leads weekly rehearsals as scheduled.
3. Attends weekly Worship staff and tech meetings, as well as occasional special event and brain-storming meetings.
4. Disciples and mentors specific team members for further development and potential leadership roles within the Worship Ministry under the oversight of the Lead Worship Pastor.
5. Directs audition process for prospective band members, including communication before and after auditions.
6. Oversees and facilitates ongoing band development and training.
7. Creatively supports the ongoing development of the Worship Ministry.
8. Communicates weekly with band members regarding updates to weekend services and upcoming events.
9. Works closely with the Technical Director to ensure band needs are met for weekend and special services.

A. Education/Experience
1. An ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ demonstrated by regular prayer, Bible study and worship attendance.
2. A preference of worship leading experience in a larger church setting.
3. Strong leadership and interpersonal relationship skills; the ability to connect with staff, musicians and congregation.
4. Able to work well with fellow staff, artists, and members of the congregation.
5. Able to connect the Bible with culturally current worship music.
6. Possesses a heart for serving and community as expressed in the extension of self to others; the ability to build teams and to express a genuine care for the larger community.
7. Understands worship from a variety of genres and generations, with specific and thorough knowledge of contemporary music.
8. Excellence in vocal ability and musicianship on one or more instruments.
9. Experienced in a variety of artistic expressions and/or an appreciation for the broader scope of the Worship Ministry.
10. A member of EHCC who supports the church vision and values.
11. Working and proficient knowledge of up to date Pro Tools Software.

B. Physical Requirements
1. Light lifting, walking and stair climbing
2. Reliable transportation

1. How would you describe your own walk with Jesus and your own personal worship?

2. What is your philosophy of worship?

3. What is your preferred worship style, both in terms of musical style and band/worship team configuration? What is your preferred instrument to lead with?

4. Describe an ideal worship service you would lead. Let’s say that the sermon is on the story of the 10 lepers that Jesus healed with only one of them returning to thank Jesus. Build a service around that.

5. What are your strengths and weaknesses as a worship leader?

6. What are your theological non-negotiables in terms of ministry context? What theological characteristics must be in place for you? What characteristics would make it impossible for you to work? What things are grey areas for you?
