Thank you for your interest in the Assistant Pastor of Discipleship position at Greentree Community Church. You may have visited our website and learned something of our personality. Perhaps you know us by reputation or have been encouraged by a friend to apply. Whatever may have sparked this connection, thanks for contacting us.

While I encourage you to read about us at, let me take a moment and share with you some of our more subtle distinctives:

• We are a multi-generational church with a large number of young families in the 28-40 age range. There are over 275 children in our congregation from infants to 5th grade and another 125 in middle and high school.
• We emphasize community both within our congregation and our subsection of greater St. Louis. Our goal is to be a community church in every sense of the word and our hope is to continually plant like-minded community churches.
• To date we have helped plant congregations in Columbia, Missouri, Webster Groves, Missouri, Boulder, Colorado and are presently active in planting churches in downtown St. Louis and Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.
• We measure our success in reaching our community with the gospel - not by the number of converts, but by the number of disciples in our congregation who are living missionally in their neighborhoods, workplaces and schools.
• At GTCC, our most common name for ourselves is “a spiritual family.” We use this as a reminder to care for one another deeply in the name of Jesus.
• Our staff is a tightly knit group that also values “spiritual family” in our relationships. There is a great deal of laughter and love in our office, as well as the occasional spat among siblings and tears shed for one another’s hurts.
• We have worshipped in one of the local middle schools for over 12 years and have a great relationship with our public school district. If they are facing a crisis, it is not unusual for GTCC to be one of their first phone calls. We are in the process of looking for a more permanent facility, but our aim is to strengthen our ties to the schools, businesses and families of Kirkwood.
• GTCC celebrates the gospel of Jesus Christ and our adoption as God’s sons and daughters through his finished work on the cross. We are learning not to take foolish pride in our sin, but we know we are not saved for being good. We have new life because God’s mercy has extended even to us. Because of this, hurting people find GTCC a safe place to re-engage with God.

There is much more to share, but our elders and pastors felt it important to give all potential candidates a bit of insight up front. I hope this has been helpful and that we will talk soon!

Only By His Grace and on Behalf of the GTCC Session,

Dr. Tom Ricks, Lead Pastor
