Purpose of position:
The Pastor of Children’s Ministry is to oversee a comprehensive ministry to children from nursery through 5th grade and their families that serves the purpose of First Baptist Church of Alhambra to reach the community for Christ and grow people to maturity in Christ.
Christian Education Responsibilities:
Coordinate a God-centered, children-focused approach to worship and education that fosters fellowship, outreach and children leadership with the goal of leading children toward a faith relationship with Jesus Christ.
Assess educational needs for all ages within the children’s ministry, setting goals for education and formation, and developing programs and activities to achieve those goals and meet identified needs.
Be an active member, giver of record, and maintain a presence at weekly church worship and special events in order to welcome a connection with children and their families providing increased opportunities for a direct relationship with children and their families.
Promote activities that provide a good public outreach extending from the children to both the FBCA community and the community at large.
Take an active role in the leadership and worship of children’s time/features within Sunday and Wednesday evening services and classes.
Be responsible for overseeing summer programs including Vacation Bible School, Summer Sea for children.
Schedule and implement regular age appropriate outings for the children of FBCA in an effort to further build Christian fellowship with the children’s age group.
Direct and assist in the evaluation and testing of educational and age-related curriculum material available for children, aiding in the selection of the most suitable resources for the children’s ministry.
Staff Supervision and Development:
Help to find and develop teachers and leaders for classes designed to help families of children on issues such as better parenting, effective single parenting, being the spiritual heads of households, financial stewardship, time management.
Serve as a resource person to current trends and training opportunities such as Children’s Pastor Conferences, CMTA Sunday School conferences, in order to enhance the effectiveness of the leadership in children’s ministry at FBCA.
Be responsible for planning, development and implementation of special programs and events directed toward the spiritual growth and fellowship of the children at FBCA.
Be responsible for planning and leading summer and winter camps for children.
Organize and oversee the “Light the Night” annual outreach to the community on October 31st each year.
Administer a program of Christian education that is biblically relevant and responsive to the changing needs of the children and families of FBCA. In conjunction with the direction and assistance of the Board of Christian Education, other pastoral staff and ministry leadership, provide direction, goal setting, administration, evaluation and planning of the Children’s ministry.
Develop and implement an annual calendar of activities and programs that are inclusive and promote relationship development and discipleship at levels appropriate to each age group within the Children’s Ministry.
Attend conferences and participate in educational training events to strengthen the knowledge and skill basses in the Children’s Ministry.
Develop and manage the annual budget for the Children’s Ministry.
Responsive to communication demands which arise through personal interaction, email and telephone contacts.
Oversee and assure the Children’s Ministry portion of the FBCA web site is kept current in informing people of the ministries and events of the Children’s Ministry.
Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education with a major in Bible required. Master’s degree in Christian Education with a major in Bible desired. Commitment to continuing education desired.
Proven effective experience in working with children as a children’s pastor, leader, teacher and/or helper.
Growing commitment to Christ, including a strong biblical knowledge and foundation.
An attested call to children, including: teaching, proclaiming the Gospel, nurturing spiritual growth and leadership development.
Relational ministry style.
