Epworth United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg, MD (worshiping an average of 200 people) is seeking a committed individual with a desire to serve Christ through organ/piano accompaniment. Candidates should be committed to their role as worship leaders and desire to work as part of a ministry team with other musicians (Director of Choirs and the Director of Praise and Worship) and worship planners under the Senior Pastor.

The ideal candidate for this part-time position is an experienced player of both pipe organ and piano in a church setting, capable of playing a flexible repertoire of music including Traditional Hymnody, Classical, Jazz, Contemporary and World (Latin, African, Afro-Cuban) music to accompany the church choirs and congregational singing. Accompaniment required for 2-3 weekly services. Strong organ accompaniment of traditional hymnody and classical music sung by congregation and chancel choir required one for service. Piano accompaniment of hymns required for remaining service(s).

Epworth’s 1964 Moller Pipe Organ with console, two keyboards and pedal board, has 21 ranks (61 pipes in a rank) distributed on both sides of the chancel area and includes chimes and zymbelstern system.

The Accompanist should possess good relational skills, be flexible, able to use all kinds of music to bring individuals into relationship with Christ and committed to being part of a multi-ethnic, bi-lingual (English/Spanish), growing and changing church. Worship service schedule includes ARISE! 9am traditional service with organ, CELEBRATE! 10:30 blend of praise/traditional/gospel music with piano and some organ, and CAMINO DE VIDA! 12noon Spanish service with praise and worship and Spanish choir.

The position is estimated to be 12-15 hours per week and includes two to three Sunday morning services and two rehearsals during choir season in addition to average 8 special services per year.
