Job Description:
Morning Star Church is the largest United Methodist Church in Missouri, and was listed as one of the "Top 100 Fastest Growing Churches in the United States" by Outreach Magazine in 2010. God is truly blessing Morning Star in each of our ministires, as well as with a pending building expansion, therefore we are seeking a high capacity leader to continue the work God has started in our youth ministry. Job Overview

The High School Youth Pastor will minister to high school youth and their families. This position will require being a team player who is relationally-driven, an experienced teacher, creative thinker and one who utilizes God’s designed structures of the student’s homes and the extended family of the church to create ministry opportunities. He/She will reach students and their families with a biblical worldview, lifestyle and mission while working in a team environment.

Evangelism, Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship and Ministry will be the foundation of this ministry. He/She will be expected to assist in bringing new students to Christ while retaining the current student population. This position will also assist teaching students to honor God through our daily life even when faced with the daily challenges of our culture. He/She must be able to connect, care for and also be willing to hold students accountable for their spiritual growth, service in the church, community service and will always encourage them towards their spiritual maturity.

Objectives

To reach students and their families with a biblical worldview, lifestyle, and mission

• To maintain a spiritually healthy family and work environment
• To provide and manage a safe and exciting environment for students to learn and fellowship
• To help students connect biblical truth with daily living in a relevant way (Identity in Christ and Spiritual disciplines)
• To provide mentoring relationships between students and spiritually maturing adults
• To provide church leadership training for students and adults
• To connect students to mission opportunities in local, state, national, and international environments
• To connect youth with serving opportunities within the local church

Responsibilities
• Planning/Programming
a. Develop, implement and attend regular youth events including but not limited to; weekly events and services, social events, retreats, camps, community service and mission projects
b. Responsible for coordinating and implementing small groups within the ministry
• Leadership
a. Assist in the recruiting, training and mentoring of adult & student leadership
b. Manage volunteer leadership teams

• Communication
a. Regularly communicate with leadership, parents, youth and church staff
b. Co-lead with Middle School Pastor in Parent Forums
c. Assist in the development of promotional materials

• Called to full-time pastoral ministry

• Theological degree or equivalent theological education preferred
• Prefer secondary education in youth / student ministry
• Mature leadership abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to share credit, shoulder responsibility and have belief in the core values of the Morning Star Ministry
• Understanding of spiritual needs necessary for student ministry

• Attend training seminars and conferences

Additional Duties
• Other duties may be assigned by the Spiritual Development Pastor as needed to enhance the performance of this position or to support the ministry of Morning Star Church.
