Position Description


Title: Assistant to the Director of After School

Purpose: To work with the After School Director in the management and teaching of the After School Program in accordance with State of California licensing standards and the goals and policies of the First Presbyterian Church After School.

Supervision: The Assistant to the Director of After School is under the direct supervision of the Director of the After School Program and the Associate Pastor of Discipleship and the indirect supervision of the Director of Administration. They are responsible to the Session through its Personnel Committee and the After School Ministry Team.

Status: This is a part-time, non-exempt position with limited benefits as provided by an employment contract and in accordance with the policies of the After School Program.

Evaluation: An annual performance evaluation shall be conducted by the Director of the After School Program.

Responsibilities:

1. To organize registrations and acceptance procedures, enrollment forms and letters, registration fees and assist with any communications relating to registrations as necessary.

2. To tend to the communications with parents and staff including e-mails, phones, office tasks, scheduling, calendaring, fundraisers, fieldtrips, etc.

3. When needed plan, set up, and at times facilitate daily activities, as instructed by the planning schedule that are developmentally appropriate for school age children. This includes preparation and cleanup for activities as scheduled, driving when needed and acting as a substitute teacher.

4. To work responsibly, equally, and respectfully with other After School Program staff.

5. To follow the rules, guidelines, and policies of the First Presbyterian Church while driving church vans to ensure the children’s safety.

6. To communicate warmly and respectfully to children.

7. To be consistent with structure and limits.

8. To consistently enforce After School Program rules.

9. To greet parents and be available to them.

10. To supervise children when appropriate.

11. To be open and willing to accept assignments from the Director and head teacher that pertains to the After School Program and its facilitation.

12. To attend the fundraisers, in-service, planning, and staff meetings as scheduled by the Director.

13. To meet all requirements for teachers contained in the After School Program policies.

14. After School personnel are expected to:
a. Maintain appropriate confidentiality at all times.
b. Be supportive of FPCB, After School program and the church staff in all contacts with the church membership and the general public.
c. Perform other tasks as requested.
