Job Posting: Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry

Wallingford United Methodist Church (WUMC) is seeking an enthusiastic and progressive Christian with a call to minister to and with children, youth and families. WUMC is a church of 150-200 people that celebrates diversity, affirms the inclusiveness of God, and actively works for peace and justice locally and globally. We seek to minister with all people, regardless of race/ethnicity, socio-economic status or sexual/affectional orientation. We hope to heal the gulf between the church and people who have been alienated in the past. We affirm that everyone is a person of sacred worth. The Director of Children, Youth and Family (CYF) Ministry works with the CYF Ministry Team to develop, implement and oversee programs for children, youth, and families in support of the ministry of WUMC.

Primary Responsibilities
Recruit, train, and support volunteers for the CYF Ministry
Work in partnership with the CYF Ministry Team in planning, designing and carrying out CYF programs and activities
Participate actively in Sunday worship and the general church program
Work collaboratively with WUMC pastor, music director and office manager to integrate CYF programs with the mission of the church
Advocate for children, youth, and families within the congregation
Provide personal outreach and support to children, youth and families
Manage the administrative aspects of the CYF ministry, such as budget, records, mailings
Ensure that Safe Sanctuary policy is publicized and implemented

Qualifications & Competencies
Exhibit Christian faith and call consistent with WUMC’s progressive teachings
Convey a genuine concern for and enjoyment of children, youth and families
Exhibit empathy, welcoming presence and pastoral presence
Function as a team player and maintain positive working relationships
Maintain healthy boundaries between yourself and others.
Maintain healthy work/life balance.
Exhibit enthusiasm for working with a diverse and inclusive faith community.
Practice strong interpersonal and communication skills
Excel in project management and implementation
Demonstrate excellent organizational, planning, goal-setting, and time management skills

Education/Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor's degree: Education, child development or related area preferred.
Experience as a volunteer and/or staff in a church or other faith institution.
3-5 years leading volunteers working with children, youth and families.
Knowledge and understanding of early childhood and youth development.
Computer skills: word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and social networking.

Hours and Compensation
This is a 30-32 hour/week, exempt position. Compensation rate is $18-20/hr DOE.
Work time will include weekends and evenings.
