The role of the Children’s Director is to assist the Lead Pastor and Ministry Director in overseeing the ministry and outreach to elementary school students. The Children’s Director will work alongside staff and leaders to carry out key responsibilities.
1. Focused work in Children’s Ministry: In accountability to the Lead Pastor and Ministry Director, the Children’s Director will develop ministry and outreach to elementary school students. Responsibilities include:
a) Serving as a motivating, inspiring and engaging leader to children and parents.
b) Developing programs, goals, and measures that serve the spiritual needs of children and their families in accordance with the church's mission, vision, and strategy. Address specific personal and spiritual needs of children as they arise through one-on-one or small group meetings, visits, or other connections appropriate to the circumstances.
c) Planning and organizing 3 special events per year: Easter, Family Fun Night and summer camp are examples.
d) Creating and developing leadership opportunities for students under the guidance of key adult mentor leaders.
e) Designing and implementing at least one major outreach or social event per quarter for young children and their families.
f) Developing an environment that is supportive and cultivates spiritual growth.
2. Staff Supervision and Development: The Children’s Director serves as the leader to the volunteers that contribute to the Children’s Department, and leads, evaluates and mentors the volunteers in the respective roles by:
a) Communicating the vision of Children’s Ministry to volunteers and parents on a consistent basis.
b) Encouraging, uplifting, and praying (pastoring) with volunteers on a consistent basis.
c) Coordinating the recruitment, training and scheduling of all volunteers in the Children’s Ministry.
d) Equipping all volunteers by providing them with the tools necessary for success in each environment.
e) Encouraging teamwork, mutual support, leadership and care to volunteers who serve in the department.
f) Establishing semi-annual volunteer meetings/appreciation gatherings.
g) Developing diverse and dynamic teams for all areas of Children’s Ministry.
3. Administration: The Children’s Director will strengthen programs and activities with young people through:
a) Establishing ministry goals and measures.
b) Organizing curriculum for worship teams and storytellers/hosts each month and distributing those materials to volunteers in a timely manner.
c) Participating in monthly creative meetings with key volunteers.
d) Reviewing and selecting curriculum materials and educational tools for Children’s Ministry.
e) Consistently managing all props, technology and creative elements for Studio 252.
f) Maintaining an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies and purchasing supplies as needed.
g) Responding to communication demands that arise through personal communication, emails, or telephone contacts.
4. Evaluation and Compensation: The Children’s Director will file weekly reports to the Ministry Director on ministry accomplishments and activities. With the Lead Pastor’s participation, the Ministry Director will conduct annually performance evaluations and review compensation package.
a) Attend regular staff meetings and retreats.
b) Attend workshops and conferences to stay informed on new and effective ways to implement children's ministry and share such knowledge with others in the church.
