I was asked, "How blended are you?" We are more traditional than contemporary. Our basic instrument in worship is a Grand Piano, but we have at times used guitar, trumpet, drums, and saxophone. When those people were available or willing to contribute. Our former staff member played the guitar and therefore we used it. My older son who is now in college played the keyboard and trumpet, so we used those instruments. In general we have a traditional choir that would sing hymns and Southern Gospel, but leadership would find them responsive to more contemporary stylings. In general we are not high church or cutting edge ... I'd call that middle of the road or blended.

Our former staff member was the Full Time Associate Pastor of Student Ministry. In addtion to his work with youth ... he was musical (keyboard/guitar) and was contemporary in his orientation. When he took part in the worship service we became much more contemporary. He has contributed to our church becoming blended. Our congregation is appreciative of some of the more contemporary Christian songs.

With that said ... We have a PART TIME Music Minister who is traditionalHymns and Southern Gospel in his orientation and plays no instruments.

These two individuals led two different choirs (the adult choir and the youth choir)... occasionally I would challenge them to come together and create what I called a Super Choir. My hope is that the new staff member can enable God's people to express worship and praise with the gifts He has provided.

With that in mind our next staff member will have the ministry title Associate Pastor of Worship and Youth. It would be half of the former ministers student postion (Youth) and all of the current part time Music Minister's position. These two separate positions would be transitioning into one full time position as the role would be Full Time Associate Pastor of Worship and Youth.

My belief is that we can engage more involvement from our congregation musically as we more intentionally blend styles. A good fit for us would be a worship leader who is neither fully traditional or contemporary ... but BLENDED in their orientation.

Our choir is for the most part older than myself (I'm 48). I'd like to see more of our younger church members become a part of our music ministry.

I hope that answers the question...

Another Question ... Can you be more specific about size? Sure ... We have around 500 members but our morning worship attendance is usually between 150 and 200 in the last month our high was 216 and our low was 124 .... the high is a little high and the low was a little low. Sunday School is around 120.
