Job Description:

The Worship Leader serves as a part of the Worship Arts Leadership Team, working directly with the Pastor of Worship Arts and the Director of Worship Arts. The primary function of the Worship Leader is to actively engage in various aspects of planning, staffing, and leading worship activities, as well as directing a wide range of worship-related activities. The main focus of the position will be to generally enhance the overall worship experience at Woodmen Valley Chapel through leading, programming, team building, recruitment and discipleship of staff and Ministry Partners (MPs). This full-time position reports to the Pastor of Worship Arts, but will have opportunity to interchange with the Senior and Executive Pastors in a number of worship-related areas. This position is also closely aligned with the Director of Worship Arts in the planning of weekend services and general development of worship within the church body. In addition, the Worship Leader will interact and give direction to the members of the Worship Arts Team, as needed, in the overall programming of worship. He/she will also have responsibilities related to leading MPs, especially in the area of their expertise (vocals, band, etc.).


A. Leads Worship
1. Leads worship for 3-4 weekend services each month at one of the campus sites
2. Works closely with Senior Pastor, Pastor of Worship Arts and Director of Worship Arts to plan weekend services
3. Oversees scheduling of all Worship Arts band members, including giving weekly direction for filling empty spots
4. Leads worship, as necessary, at a variety of venues within the WVC Community
5. Charts new songs and makes them available on Planning Center
6. Assists in the overall planning of other specific assignments requiring worship
7. Works with individual WVC ministries to enhance their overall worship experience

B. Leadership/Planning
1. Plans and leads weekly rehearsals, as requested by Pastor of Worship Arts
2. Attends weekly Worship Arts staff, planning and tech meetings, as well as occasional special events and series brain-storming meetings
3. Recruits, encourages and trains MPs in specific areas related to their giftedness and ministry assignments
4. Builds specific teams within the Worship Arts ministry community to meet the ongoing needs of the church
5. Creatively supports the ongoing development of the Worship Arts department
6. Disciples and mentors specific band members for further development and potential leadership roles within the Worship Arts department, under the oversight of the Pastor of Worship Arts
7. Weekly communicates with band members regarding changes made to weekend services and upcoming events
8. Oversees and facilitates ongoing band development and training, including “Fuel” nights and instrument-specific workshops
9. Meets with band members throughout the week and weekend services for intentional relationship building and pastoral oversight
10. Works closely with the Technical Director to ensure band needs are being met for weekend, youth and special services
11. Helps raise-up and release worship leaders for various services, including weekend and youth services

C. Student Ministries
1. Leads worship for weekly Fusion (high school) youth services, and special services, camps and retreats, as requested
2. Keeps monthly Fusion worship team schedule; weekly fills empty spots
3. Works closely with Director of High School Ministries regarding flow of service, upcoming events and monthly Fusion schedule
4. Coordinates with and mentors Fusion worship leaders regarding song selection and transitions; works with Fusion band

D. Other duties as requested


A. Education/Experience
1. At least 3-5 years of experience leading worship in a church setting of 500+
2. Strong interpersonal relationship skills; a servant’s heart in leading others; the ability to connect with staff, MPs and congregation
3. Able to work with fellow staff, artists, MPs and members of the congregation
4. Able to articulate a theology of worship that is both contemporary and reflective of history
5. Possesses a heart for community as expressed in the extension of self to others; the ability to build teams and to express a genuine care for the larger community
6. Understands worship from a variety of genres and generations, with specific knowledge of contemporary music
7. Experienced in a variety of artistic expressions and/or an appreciation for the broader scope of the arts
8. An ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ demonstrated through regular prayer, Bible study and worship attendance
9. A member of WVC who supports its vision and values, as well as contributes time and tithes

B. Physical Requirements
1. Light lifting, walking and stair climbing
2. Reliable transportation
