Job Description:
This person has made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and must demonstrate the reality of that relationship through their life and testimony. This person must have ministry experience in working with adults, and the ability to relate to them on a personal and spiritual level. This person has a Christlike attitude that is accepting and inclusive of all the diverse parts of the body of Christ. This person must be self-directed, high-energy, enthusiastic and self-motivated with a history of success.

This person must be creative, highly organized, and effective in managing multiple priorities and assignments. The person has conceptual skills and can develop an idea into an active ministry. This person is to have a strong and consistent Biblical teaching ability and be able to effectively communicate God’s work in various settings. This person must also possess strong oral and written communication skills and must have the ability to master the church P.C. programs including Microsoft Office products. This person must have proven interpersonal and conflict management skills and be able to make decisions in keeping with the vision, policies, and practices of Calvary Chapel Newport News.

Much of the Assistant Pastor's job description involves ensuring his spiritual life, character, carriage, demeanor, education, training and attitude always represent Christ and his church. This takes constant effort through prayer, worship, scriptural study, professional growth, education, training and personal fellowship with the congregation. This person realizes that God is always working, seeks to join God in His work, and is willing to make life adjustments to join God in what He is doing.

Support the Senior Pastor in carrying out the ministry of Calvary Chapel Newport News to include:
1. Ordained for ministry
2. Assuming the responsibility for preaching Sunday morning and Wednesday evening services when the Senior Pastor is not available
3. Pastoral Counseling
4. Participate in staff meetings and leadership training sessions
5. Handle emergency situations
6. Handle conflict resolution among church members
7. Visit and maintain contact with church members that are sick, hospitalized or shut-in
8. Inform Senior Pastor of special needs of ministry groups or any critical issues within the church
9. Pray for and with church members
10. Discipleship of all ages when needed
11. Shepherd, guide, support, and develop the Church Leaders and maintain regular scheduled contact with the leaders
12. Perform weddings, funerals, baptisms and baby dedications periodically as needed to assist the Senior Pastor
13. Assist the Senior Pastor as needed in administrative tasks, special projects and campaigns

The Reaching In Pastor provides dynamic leadership, creates and cast a vision, and effectively empowers, equips volunteers to participate in the ministries under his oversight. This pastor has oversight of Pastoral Care, Benevolence, Assimilation, Baptisms, Communion, Education and other ministries as assigned.

A. Pastoral Care
The Pastoral is to be a shepherd to the church family with the central purpose of developing spiritual growth and maturity. Oversees pastoral care in the areas of planning, implementation and coordination as well as provides support to leaders in the following ministries areas relating to Pastoral Care:
1. Hospital Visits
2. Funerals
3. Baby Dedications
4. Counseling

B. Benevolence
The Pastor is to oversee the benevolence program which assists in providing for the basic necessities of life to needy persons.
1. Execute benevolence reviews and disbursements in adherence with the benevolence policy and guidelines
2. Review and evaluate benevolence requests and applications as well as verify needs
3. Coordinate with community agencies to meet benevolence need where appropriate
4. Review applicant documentation
5. Maintain confidentiality of applicants
6. Liaison with DUCO for financial assessments
7. Coordinate with Finance director to disburse funds from budget
8. Contact applicants when decision has been reached
9. Complete church benevolence paperwork and input data in ACS for tracking purposes
10. Oversee budget and expenditures for the benevolence ministry
11. Develop and submit reports upon request to the Senior Pastor and, when requested, to the Trustees, on benevolence activities and disbursements

C. Assimilation
The Pastor will use as many strategies and evangelism methods as God directs to assimilate visitors, new converts and rededicated believers into the nurturing environment of CCNN for discipleship and multiplication.
1. Supervise the assimilation process for people new to the church to ensure they are incorporated into ministries and small groups
2. Develop new initiatives to make visitors feel welcome
3. Follow up with members completing Calvary Connections class and facilitate movement of newly connected members into small groups and entry-level ministry positions
4. Ensure accurate tracking via ACS of visitors, new believers and new members to include, but not limited to, contact information, family demographics, areas of ministry service and small group assignment

D. Baptisms
1. Coordinate the set up and take down of baptismal
2. Interview and counsel prospective baptism candidates
3. Instruct baptismal candidates in baptism procedures
4. Coordinate with Executive Assistant regarding baptismal applications and certificates
5. Oversee baptism celebrations
6. Oversee budget and expenditures

E. Communion
1. Oversee communion process
2. Oversee budget and expenditures

F. Education
1. Plan, schedule, oversee and personally teach (when necessary) Calvary Connections Class
2. Work with Senior Pastor on developing the Calvary Bible Institute
