Job Description:
This person must have made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and must demonstrate the reality of that relationship through their life and testimony. This person must have ministry experience in working with both adults and youth, and the ability to relate to them on a personal and spiritual level. This person has a Christlike attitude that is accepting and inclusive of all the diverse parts of the body of Christ. This person must be self-directed, high-energy, enthusiastic and self-motivated with a history of success. The person must possess a strong fervor for reaching the lost and help the Church reach the community through evangelism, service, out-reach, and personal relationships.

This person must be creative, highly organized, and effective in managing multiple priorities and assignments. The person has conceptual skills and can develop an idea into an active ministry. This person is to have a strong and consistent Biblical teaching ability and be able to effectively communicate God’s work in various settings. This person must also possess strong oral and written communication skills and must have the ability to master the church P.C. programs including Microsoft Office products. This person must have proven interpersonal and conflict management skills and be able to make decisions in keeping with the vision, policies, and practices of Calvary Chapel Newport News.

Much of the Assistant Pastor's job description involves ensuring his spiritual life, character, carriage, demeanor, education, training and attitude always represents Christ and his church. This takes constant effort through prayer, worship, scriptural study, professional growth, education, training and personal fellowship with the congregation. This person realizes that God is always working, seeks to join God in His work, and is willing to make life adjustments to join God in what He is doing.

Support the Senior Pastor in carrying out the ministry of Calvary Chapel Newport News to include:
1. Ordained for ministry
2. Pastoral Counseling
3. Participate in staff meetings and leadership training sessions
4. Handle emergency situations
5. Conflict resolution among church members
6. Visit and maintain contact with church members that are sick, hospitalized or shut-in
7. Inform Senior Pastor of special needs of ministry groups or any critical issues within the church
8. Pray for and with church members
9. Discipleship of all ages when needed
10. Shepherd, guide, support, and develop the Church Leaders and maintain regular scheduled contact with the leaders
11. Perform weddings, funerals, baptisms and baby dedications periodically as needed to assist the Senior Pastor
12. Assist the Senior Pastor as needed in administrative tasks, special projects and campaigns

The Youth Pastor provides dynamic leadership, creates and casts a vision and effectively empowers, equips volunteers to participate in the ministries under his oversight. This pastor has oversight of the Ignite Youth Ministry which includes Junior High and High School students.

Administer, develop and implement youth ministries and programs designed to meet the spiritual, social, and emotional needs of youth in the church. The first priority of the Youth Pastor is to be involved in the youth’s lives—establishing relationships and providing opportunities to shepherd and help youth develop their own relationship with Jesus Christ
1. Serve as liaison for Ignite ministry leaders
2. Define the vision for the spiritual development of the junior and senior high youth ministry
3. Establish and maintain policies concerning operation of the youth ministry
4. Promote growth within ministry
5. Design effective programs and activities where the youth can use their abilities, talents, and spiritual gifts to minister to others as service unto the Lord
6. Assist families, especially families with youth, to assimilate into church ministry as a family, learning to minister together as a family
7. Training youth leaders for life changing impact on youth
8. Develop relationships with area schools and officials
9. Pray for the students, staff and parents of the youth ministry
10. Develop curriculum for Sunday morning and Wed. evening programs
11. Recruit and evaluate volunteers to participate and lead various programs, teaching and service activities
12. Counsel youth and/or their parents regarding youth and parenting issues
13. Provide feedback to parents concerning topics/themes being studied and special events as well as spiritual growth and/or disciplinary issues with their youth
14. Oversee budget and expenditures for the youth ministry
15. Plan retreats, conferences and camps for youth
16. Promote the youth ministry to the church and local community
17. Develop activities that provide Christian fun and fellowship
