The purpose of this position is to support the mission of Wheatland Salem Church: Love God. Love Others. Change the World.
This position’s primary focus is implementing the vision of the congregation to equip Christ-followers for everyday service that has a long-term impact. To that end, the Director of Christian Growth and Development will focus his/her efforts on the Christian growth of children, students, and adults in alignment with the understandings of Wheatland Salem Church concerning Christian spiritual formation.

*Collaborates with the pastoral staff to integrate the larger preaching/worship themes into the ministries of Christian spiritual formation as appropriate.
*Planning and coordination of educational opportunities for children, students and adults paying special attention to transitional times of life:
-Preschool to Kindergarten
-5th grade to middle school
-Middle school to high school
-High school to college
-Coordinator of Children’s Ministries
-Coordinator of Student Ministries
-Coordinator of Adult Ministries
*Ensure that age-level programming coordinates with the current WSC discipleship plan providing opportunities for all ages to experience the devoted life, life in community and the generous life.
*Work with the Coordinator of Worship and Choir Director(s) to integrate music into the spiritual development of children and youth
*Lead a robust ministry of adult small groups that includes development of a leadership cohort, a strong identity of a “small group community” within the congregation, regular opportunities for “on ramps” and “off ramps” for small group participants, leadership training, and the cultivation of a culture of healthy small groups.
*Develop a model for small groups within children and student ministries
*Experience in collaborative team building in a ministry setting
*Expertise in Christian Education, Family Ministry, and/or Christian Spiritual Formation as evidenced by an advanced degree in the field.
*Knowledgeable and supportive of the evangelical Wesleyan understanding of the Christian faith
*Knowledge of United Methodist Church doctrine and polity is a plus.
*Bachelors Degree in Christian Ministry, advanced degree preferred
