Examples of Duties

Partner with the Producer of Media Events in the entire Life Cycle of an event/production.

Provide technical direction, assistance, and multimedia integration support for 7 – 9 Chapel Services (Multi-site) weekly, university productions and classroom technology.

Works closely with Producer of Media Events on production policies and procedures for Media Services production control rooms, sound stage and portable equipment.

Designs, manages, installs, and maintains production hardware, software and equipment in Media Services production control rooms, sound stages and portable installations and ensures proper alignment and timing of systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications on the APU Campus and/or regional centers in partnership with Production group, i.e. video manager, chapel coordinator.

Supports and/or coordinates lighting design for event productions.
In conjunction with University Relations, supports and administers web streaming architecture and archival process of audio and video productions including, but not limited to

Work with the office of IT Architecture to establish and maintain technical architecture standards to ensure media systems are scalable, reliable and maintainable.

Create and maintain systems documentation and schematics detailing the setup and configuration of the broadcast systems implemented in Media Services.

Responsible to install and maintain Media Services hardware and software systems not supported by the IMT Computer Techs.

Maintains equipment service records, logs, and reports as required by FCC and Legal Contracts.

Support emergency backup and recovery functions to ensure reliability and maintainability.

Provides necessary support and training to Media Services staff concerning the use of production equipment and facilities.

Contribute to basic maintenance and configuration of production equipment for University productions as directed by Management.

Ability to be on site to work evenings and weekends in partnership with Producer of Media Events.

Contributes to overall direction and strategies for IMT Media Services.

Contributes to overall internal planning sessions to ensure creative and appropriate events.

Support video/ audio/graphics lighting equipment for live productions, as needed in partnership with Video Manager and/or
Producer of Media Events.

Stays current on, investigates, and tests new technologies that can benefit APU by providing operation cost savings, increased efficiency, enhanced services, etc.

Perform other task as assigned by Associate Director and/or Producer of Media Events.


Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Media Production; or technical equivalent plus 3-5 years experience. Five to seven years of technical direction supervision, audiovisual equipment, lighting coordination, sound production, or equivalent.

LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE: In order to function effectively, this person must have a high level of independence, show initiative, and have the ability to be highly motivated. This must be done in a manner, which is consistent with the team management structure that is employed by the group.

INFLUENCE OF RESULTS: This person must recognize that much of the work is completed without direct supervision. This requires accuracy and integrity of work that will represent the mission and values of the IMT group.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This person will supervise student staff and/or interns.

OTHER REMARKS: This position requires someone who is totally committed to excellence in customer service, and who has a good understanding of Azusa Pacific University’s overall business, business structures and business practices.

This person will be required to support and uphold the IMT Strategic Directions.

To enable the Azusa Pacific University media and classroom functions to operate normally at all times, this person is required to be available by telephone for management, consultation and liaison with support, after normal working hours and on weekends. This may require considerable onsite presence to manage emergency situations.


The following knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior work experience, or on-the-job training:

1. Knowledge of instructional technology hardware and software systems; personal computers and applications; and budgeting.
2. Knowledge of production software, i.e, pre-visualization for lighting, wideline array focus, broadcast communication, digital processing, etc . . .
3. Knowledge of facility engineering and building construction, primarily relating to electrical distribution systems and communication infrastructure.
4. Knowledge of industry standards in broadcasting.
5. Knowledge of system integration in regards to media installations.
6. Knowledge of live production systems, including but not limited to audio, lighting and video systems – digital and analog, i.e. Ross, Evertz, Yamaha Consoles, Martin, Riedel Communications, etc . . .
7. Knowledge of project management, including resource allocation, budgeting and scheduling.
8. Must have ability to effectively relate professionally and communicate to all levels of the University faculty/staff, administration and students.
9. Ability to prioritize work, use good judgment and accomplish tasks with limited direct supervision.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good organizational skills, ability to analyze and resolve problems. 11. Possess a Christ-centered service attitude.
12. Must be team oriented and be able to meet project deadlines
13. Must have a service-oriented mind-set with the ability to organize, prioritize, and delegate tasks while transferring knowledge and expertise to empower clients and users.
14. Requires the ability to work under pressure, with competing priorities, multi-tasking.
15. Working knowledge of rigging and structural support.

Physical Demands
Repetitive hand motions at computer key board. Sitting and/or standing 5-6 hours per day. Climbing on truss, stairs and catwalk. Listening and speaking on the telephone. Ability to conduct business at other offices on campus and/or regional centers. Occasionally able to reach, grasp, pull, bend, lift up to 50 lbs.
