The Children’s Ministry at GPC is one of the areas in which our congregation expresses its call from God and connects to the community. We are now seeking to expand and grow this area of focus with a new full time position of Children’s Ministry Director. The Children’s Ministry Director will actively develop teams of all ages in living out the call of ministry with children.

The Role:

The Children’s Director will provide a place for children and their families to connect to Christ, to community (the body of Christ at GPC) and to their God given call. This position is responsible for the oversight of all children’s ministry programs, nursery/toddlers through fifth grade and supervises paid and volunteer staff.

The Children’s Director will have sufficient knowledge of Evangelical Christianity and be skilled in teaching scriptural truths to children. The Children’s Director will periodically submit to complete background check including LifeScan and drug testing.

Essential Job Duties:

Provide a Bible based program for infants – 5th graders for Sunday morning service times. These programs maintains an
authentic and growing walk with Jesus Christ for the children through ongoing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading and
memorization, prayer, music, and fellowship. The Children’s Ministry Director will work in conjunction with the Director of
Church Life in making all major decisions and leadership plans for infants- 5th graders, volunteers and staff involved with
the Sunday morning program.

Create and implement a mid-week relational based program for 3rd-5th graders that reinforces Biblical values through scripture, games, and activities. This will include discipling the students and equipping them to serve others.

Oversee summer day camp program providing a relational based program for Preschool-6th grade that reinforces Biblical values through, games, activities and discipleship. This program is outreach oriented, as well a training ground for future leaders, including Jr. High, Sr. High students and College students. This program also includes discipling the Jr. High and High School students and equipping them to serve others.

Develop an outreach program or events that actively engage unreached and disconnected children and families of our community.

Develop and equip both paid staff and lay volunteers associated with children’s ministry.

Coordinate childcare and children’s activities associated with additional Church sponsored functions and events.

Actively pursue opportunities to draw families into relationship with the body of Christ both at GPC and in the community of Gilroy.

Maintain budget and all other administrative paperwork involved in running of assigned programs. Attend weekly staff meetings and staff development sessions.

In partnership with Jr. High and Sr. High directors, identify, develop and disciple students in ministry as part of growing and equipping leaders.

Maintain an attitude of continuous improvement, constantly looking for ways to effectively achieve our vision.

Skills and Requirements:

Mature individual who loves children and is committed to helping children grow in their faith.

Collaborative, team player, able to bring people together to effectively create and problem solve.

Excellent people manager skills – growing and managing both paid and volunteer staff.

Must have a broad repertoire of children’s programming including, age appropriate games, activities and worship.

Must be an energetic, approachable, creative person whose imagination and proven leadership ability can provide a variety of recreational activities.

Lead skits, games and illustrations as needed.

3-5 years leadership experience with children’s programs.

Bachelors degree, computer literate.

Knowledge of multimedia preferred or demonstrated ability to learn.

This position requires a valid driver’s license and may be asked to obtain a Class B license for driving church vehicles.
