Job Description:
Director of Community Relations and Sports Ministries
Calvary Church Los Gatos

We are looking for a visionary, motivated individual who is called to champion the vision and values of Calvary Church within our local community. The ideal candidate will have a proven leadership track record, as this person will be instrumental in leading Calvary Church forward in the areas of local outreach and sports ministries. This person will cast vision and create environments that help outsiders (people outside the church and outside the faith) to connect with Calvary Church and, ultimately, become followers of Jesus Christ.

This person will create and implement catalytic events that help move our congregation beyond the physical walls of the church and into the community. These events will be strategically related to Calvary’s overall vision and will help people to more naturally represent Christ within their community and spheres of influence.

Additionally, one of the most tangible ways we believe that bridges can be built with the surrounding community is through the creation and leadership of a quality sports ministry. We believe that both sports and outreach are closely related and share the ethos of wanting to reflect Christ’s love in environments where people are likely to be most receptive to it. Calvary is known locally for its quality sports programs, and this person will be instrumental in taking these offerings to the next level.

Ministry Qualifications:
• previous ministry and leadership experience in the area of outreach (either paid or volunteer), preferably at a church with a regular attendance of greater than 500 people
• some kind of leadership experience involving sports (either ministry or secular); preferably includes experience overseeing an overall sports program and multiple personnel (i.e. a “trainer of trainers”)
• exceptional project management skills (including leadership of large events)
• experienced with attracting volunteers and building teams
• gifted in leadership, evangelism and seeing people outside the faith come to know Christ
• college degree (additionally, some level of Bible school and/or seminary is a plus)

Personal Profile:
• can articulate a clear call to ministry and personal story of how transformed by Christ
• relates well to others and displays the love of Christ in his/her everyday life
• a person of integrity and devotion to Christ (according to 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1)
• possesses godly character and a spirit of humility
• demonstrates maturity and balance of emotions
• has a passion for people outside the church and outside the faith
• a team player: protective of other staff and supportive of overall leadership decisions
• given degree of ministry with outsiders, possesses a high level of relational intelligence
• knows how to empower other leadership and delegate accordingly
• can craft and cast a compelling vision
• experience in creating environments that are relevant to outsiders
• fully committed to the vision, values and ministries of Calvary Church

Ministry Responsibilities:

• House of Hope (and building relationship with West Valley Community Services)
• building partnerships with outside organizations and ministries (current or future)
• building partnerships with other churches (i.e. Beautiful Day)

Sports Ministries
• develop and lead Calvary’s annual basketball league
• create other sports offerings that help connect Calvary to our community
• create intentional pathways for families to connect with our church through sports
• offer occasional training clinics and/or sports camps for further skill development

• staff meetings
• overseeing Calvary’s need-based ministries (divorce recovery, substance abuse, etc.)
