Job Description: Director of Children’s Ministries

The position of Director of Children’s Ministries (Toddler – grade 6) exists to facilitate Children’s Education Ministries at FUMC. This individual has responsibility for implementing the programs of the Christian Education Committee (CEC). The position will include promoting and planning children’s programs, recruiting volunteers and students, insuring adequate staffing in compliance with the FUMC Safe Sanctuaries program and successful execution and follow up on all programs. The Director of Children’s Ministries will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching God’s Word to all children and to developing and implementing educational programs approved by the CEC that will enhance the knowledge of the scriptures and the entire children’s ministry at FUMC. The position will be accountable to the Staff Parish Relations Committee and work under the direction of the Christian Education Committee. Key skills required for the job include:
Love and patience for God’s children and a passion to them grow spiritually.
Thorough knowledge of the scriptures as summarized in the Apostles Creed and a commitment to them.
Strong Interpersonal Skills, Communication Skills and Teamwork.
Problem solving/conflict management.
Curriculum development and selection.
Project organization and management.
Financial accountability and management.
Areas of Responsibility:
1. Program Development: to maintain and improve the current level Christian education in the following areas:
a. Sunday Morning WORM program – Grades 1 – 6 during 1st service at 9:00 am
b. Sunday Morning Toddlers – 2 and 3 year olds
c. Sunday Morning Kindergarten – 4 and 5 year olds
e. Sunday Morning Children’s Church - during 2nd service at 11:00 am
2. Promoting, Recruiting and Staffing for:
a. Teachers and Shepherds for Sunday Morning programs
b. Second persons to meet Safe Sanctuaries guidelines
c. Director of VBS/Sports Ministry
d. MOPS ministry
a. Order, sort and distribute existing curriculum
a. Participate in Administrative Council meetings, including writing a pre-read for every meeting and writing monthly Echoes articles.
b. Participate in the annual church charge conference.
c. Participate in Teacher training events and classes.
5. Organize Special Events:
a. 3rd grade Bibles
b. Sunday School Staff Appreciation Sunday
c. Teacher Dedication Sunday
d. Confirmation Sunday
e. Promotion Sunday
f. Sunday School related Mission Events – working with the Missions Committee
g. Other outside teacher training conferences and events
6. Safe Sanctuary Compliance
a. Verify that all teachers are in compliance.
b. Arrange for teacher certification with Safe Sanctuaries.
c. Work with Safe Sanctuaries coordinator and Pastor to insure compliance.
d. Maintain class attendance lists and teacher sign-in sheets.
a. Maintain current database of all students.
b. Distribute class lists, room assignments and attendance forms to teachers as appropriate.
c. Distribute student offering envelopes.
d. Insure facilities (lights, A/C, heat, equipment, first aid) are adequately prepared on Sunday mornings to provide the best possible learning environment.
e. Maintain discipline as required.
f. Maintain and develop job descriptions for teachers, shepherds and other volunteers as appropriate.
g. Maintain supplies – art room, drama room, AV equipment, etc.
8. Future Program Development: research, discuss and propose additional Christian education Programs to further the work of Faith UMC.
