POSITION: Associate Pastor of Children/Childhood Ministry Director
REPORTS TO: Senior Associate Pastor


The Associate Pastor of Children/Childhood Ministry Director is accountable for the development and oversight of all SCBC ministries pertaining to Preschoolers & Children (infants through grade 6), including but not limited to:
• Sunday School
• Children’s Church
• Sunday Evening Ministries
• Wednesday Evening Ministries
• Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS)
• Vacation Bible School (VBS)

In addition, the Associate Pastor/Director also provides support to other ministry areas of SCBC through coordination of childcare, provision of curriculum/supplies and/or instructional support, including but not limited to:
• Preschool & Children’s Choirs
• Ladies Bible Study
• Adult Choir Rehearsal
• Special Needs Ministry
• Church-wide Services & Special Events

To effectively fulfill the accountabilities of the position, the Associate Pastor of Children/Childhood Ministry Director must be responsible to:
• Review and select Sunday School, VBS, and all Preschool & Children’s Discipleship Curriculum
• Recruit, screen, train and supervise teachers and helpers, volunteer and paid staff
• Assign classroom space; insure cleanliness and proper use of rooms
• Provide materials (literature and supplies) for all Preschool & Children’s Classes
• Monitor enrollment and attendance, insuring proper staff/child ratios
• Ensure adequate site security for Preschool & Children’s ministries
• Coordinate Childcare for church-wide services & special events
• Manage Operating Budget for Preschool & Children’s Ministries
• Counsel and consult with Pastoral Staff on matters pertaining to Preschool & Children’s Ministries
• Participate in Staff Meetings, Staff Prayer Time and Leadership/Committee Meetings of the SCBC as needed
• Work with the Associate Pastor of Students to plan for the effective transition of older children to the Student Ministry
• Support overall ministry of SCBC and special projects as may be requested by pastoral staff

The Associate Pastor/Director should meet the following requirements:
• Profess Jesus Christ as their personal savior
• Have a servant’s heart
• Have a passion for ministry to children, desiring to see them grow in Christ
• Possess a graduate degree, in a discipline relevant to child education or development
• Have five or more years experience in a leadership role in children’s ministry
