Director of Ladle Fellowship - Revised: 03/2011

The Director of Ladle Fellowship oversees and directs all aspects of Ladle’s ministry, which provides food, clothing and spiritual guidance to the homeless and poor in downtown San Diego.
The Director educates, encourages, and calls forth the gifts of the congregation in service, educates members in the doctrine, history, and witness of a servant church, and provides opportunities for giving, serving, sharing and transforming lives.
The Director oversees and leads budgeting and fund raising for the program.
The Director recognizes and supports this unique mission of discipling the poor within our city. The location, history, resources and values of FPC indicate our strong calling to invite and connect with people on the margins of society. The Director of Ladle helps the congregation host and train individuals, groups and churches, inviting all to exercise the gifts of hospitality God has given us for His glory.

A. Demonstrates a consistent and enthusiastic commitment to Jesus Christ and supports the doctrinal standards of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
B. Demonstrates skill in social work and dealing with people, by university degree, credentials and/or previous work experience.
C. Evidences a warm and friendly personality, relating well to staff and volunteers who share in development and implementation of the Ladle ministry.
D. Demonstrates aptitude for motivating, equipping, and deploying members engaged in our ministry of service.
E. Communicates goals and expectations effectively, so participants can adequately identify and enjoyably perform their respective roles.

A. Reports directly to the Senior Pastor who is responsible for the supervision of this position.
B. Supervises all paid and volunteer Ladle staff, such as the Food Bank coordinator, cooks, servers, etc.
C. Consults with program staff in related areas of ministry, such as Reaching Downtown for Christ and City Tree Christian School.
D. Confers with Personnel, which reviews employee performance and compensation and makes recommendations to Session for compensation and responsibilities.

A. Establish and keep updated policies and procedures for all aspects of the ministry.
B. Manage the recruiting, scheduling and supervision of volunteer groups and individuals who prepare and serve the weekly meal.
C. Directly supervise any paid Ladle staff.
D. Work with the Ladle Ministry Team in the timely development of Ladle ministry strategy and budget; and manage both revenue and expenses to stay within the budget.
E. Seek and coordinate non-cash donations of food, resources and clothing. Provide leadership for and oversight of fundraising and seeking private or government grants.
F. Maintain professional relationships with government agencies providing food (San Diego Food Bank), or reimbursement (FEMA) and see that applications and reports are appropriately completed and submitted to these agencies.
G. Provide oversight for all food safety issues, and maintain the facilities in compliance with San Diego County Heath Department standards.
H. Provide an on-going presentation of the gospel to Ladle guests through music, preaching and other means, while offering a discipleship program of instruction, fellowship and mentoring for the homeless and poor.
I. Field requests for assistance from the poor, and guide how Ladle responds to these requests.
J. Serve as the primary spokesman in articulating or representing the Ladle ministry, both inside and outside the church.
K. Work with staff and other ministry teams to coordinate the harmonious use of our facility (Narthex, Dining Room, bathrooms and exterior spaces) to ensure the best mix of comfort and personal safety for church members, Ladle guests and City Tree students.
L. Oversee the maintenance, repair and purchase of the food preparation equipment owned by FPC.
M. Provide spiritual input and factual information about the on-going programs to assist and inform the Ladle Ministry Team; cooperatively developing the philosophy and strategy for this ministry.

A. The Director of Ladle is a full-time paid position with benefits.
B. The Director of Ladle shall have paid vacation each calendar year, consistent with policy as specified in the Employee Handbook. The time shall be arranged in consultation with the Senior Pastor.
C. Sick pay shall be paid for up to two weeks of time per year, as specified in the employee handbook (non-cumulative from year-to-year).
D. Absences, other than paid vacation and/or illness, shall be subject to approval of the Senior Pastor.

A. Be present at regular Saturday and Sunday FPC and Ladle service and worship events.
B. Lead weekday Ladle Bible studies and prayer groups.
C. Develop personal relationships with Ladle guests, inviting them to faith in Christ, to grow in maturity, to join in membership at FPC, and to provide service to others.
D. Visit churches in the region to encourage their support and service in Ladle’s ministry.
E. Regularly meet with the Ladle Ministry Team.
F. Attend weekly staff meetings.
