Job Description:
Immanuel’s Church, a multi-ethnic community of Christians committed to knowing Jesus and making Him known, is seeking a full-time Youth Pastor/Minister. The Youth Pastor is to provide spiritual leadership to teenage youth from 9th through the 12th grade. He/she is responsible for carrying out the Senior Pastor's vision for the church through High School ministry.

Primary Objectives and Expectations: The Youth Pastor will have the primary responsibility for the high school students at Immanuel’s Church. To that end, the Youth Pastor is expected to:

1. introduce high school students to Christ
2. increase the knowledge of the Bible
3. guide high school students in the practical applications of Biblical principles ushering them to spiritual growth
4. continually inspire students to commit the rest of their adult life serving Jesus Christ
5. mentoring youth leaders as well as other volunteer leaders in areas of personal discipleship, evangelism and
works of service
6. partner with parents or guardians in raising their teenagers to a wholesome maturity

Qualifications: The candidate for this position:

- Has a minimum of three years of experience in working with youth in leadership or oversight capacity
- Must be a born again believer with a maturing relationship with Christ
- Must be passionate about the pursuit of the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit
- Must show a faithful pursuit of leadership characteristics as listed in 1Timothy 3
- Is committed to Immanuel’s Church’s core vision
- Has a demonstrated the ability to work in multi-ethnic settings
- Must be able to effectively study the Bible, so they are prepared to preach, teach and counsel from it
- Must demonstrate a genuine love and maintain an authentic, good rapport with young people
- Has a genuine holistic concern for youth including their spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being
- Must be sensitive to needs and pressures of teens with knowledge of possible solutions
- Is self-motivated, visionary, and goal oriented
- Must be in good physical and mental health.
- Must be able to exercise initiative and judgment as an independent worker
- Has strong organizational and communication skills
- Must be able to recruit, train, and disciple youth workers
- Is able to recruit, coordinate, and work with a team of volunteers leaders
- Must have good interpersonal and communication skills, as they must communicate with a variety of people,
including pastors, youth, parents and community members. They must be comfortable speaking in public and in
small group settings


Gospel Centered:
The central theme of this ministry should be what God has done, is doing, and will do for us through Jesus Christ. The high school ministry’s mission revolves around the overall mission of Immanuel’s Church – to know Jesus Christ and make Him known.

Relationally Focused Discipleship:
The Church is a social institution where believers are conformed to the image of Christ – this transformation occurs within the context of relationships. It is the quality of these relationships that will determine the effectiveness of the youth pastor. It will be in these relationships that the truths proclaimed in the structured times of teaching will be applied and reinforced. Hence, personal involvement in the lives of youth by visiting them in their schools, attending their extra-curricular activities, and creatively spending time “in their worlds”, etc. will occupy a significant portion of the youth pastor’s schedule.

We anticipate that youth pastor would not be alone in this relationship building but would be assisted in this area by the volunteer team of leaders.

Intentionally Multi-Ethnic Focused:
In keeping with the demographics of the church and the surrounding community, it is imperative that the High School ministry caters to high school students from the broad spectrum of the cultures represented here at Immanuel’s Church. Diversity is not only incidental but integral to our vision and should be expressed when we come together for worship and other activities in diverse styles and formats consistent with Immanuel’s core values. Thus, a special focus through service, mission projects, as well as community outreach efforts should be targeted to these cultures.

Program Development & Coordination:
The Youth Pastor is responsible for expanding the current youth group accountability dynamics by creating small groups and assigning leaders to each of these groups. Oversight of these leaders and establishing clear responsibility lists for these leaders is critical to ensuring that each member of the youth ministry is not left unconnected. This may include teaching and or overseeing teachers for this responsibility. This does not mean that he or she must plan every event, but it does mean that he or she is responsible for clearly delegating to other volunteers or parents. The Youth Pastor must be prepared to act as a point of contact for the youth and their parents.

The Youth Pastor will be responsible for overseeing all youth activities, and coordinating the youth team and volunteers. As such, the Pastor will need to have administrative and communication skills, ensuring that the details of youth-related events are clearly accessible.

Administration and Communication:
The Youth Pastor will need to be in frequent communication with others impacted by the youth ministry. At a minimum, this would include the church departments in terms of coordination and use of church facilities. In addition to updating the Church leadership of the affairs of the High School ministry, the Youth Pastor must also communicate regularly with parents concerning plans and activities of the youth. Using social media like Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, and updating and allowing easy access to the Deep Waters Calendar of Events go a long way in ensuring effective communication to all impacted parties.

Leadership Development:
The Youth Pastor, in addition to ministry to youth as a whole, will also seek out individuals within the youth group for special focus in developing them as leaders. These individuals will receive training and direction so that they can under the guidance of the Youth Pastor, lead the youth in various ways. These can range from the areas of worship, to leading small groups, to event planning, to leading teams in various service projects.

The High School Youth Pastor is expected to work with the youth such that un-saved members of the youth group would come to know Christ as their personal Savior. The Youth Pastor is also expected to train the youth to share their own faith with others in their schools and areas of influence.
Partnering with Parents:
In order to ensure success in ministering effectively to the high school youth, the youth pastor must devote time to communicating ideas and scheduling details to parents and the congregation as well as the youth. Since the entire program is a partnership between parents, the church, and youth, family communication is vital to the development of a strong ministry.

Participate in weekly Sanctuary Worship services; continue growth and development through conferences, reading, and exchange of ideas with members of leadership


- Provide oversight of junior and senior high youth and youth leaders. Ensure that youth groups maintain a balanced program of spiritual, physical, and social growth

- Be acquainted with personal lives of the young people (either directly or through the leadership team). For example, visit homes, attend school events, and make hospital visits. Having a keen sense of awareness of current youth development and culture is critical.

- Foster open communication with parents/guardians through social media, email, phone, or by other means of communication

- Ensure that youth members are taught and charged with their responsibility to outreach to the community

- Ensure training and regular involvement of youth in church ministry

- Ensure proper care of facilities used by youth programs

- Planning youth ministry budget and raising funds

- Working with other ministry leaders to ensure smooth transitions in the spiritual development of an individual from childhood through adulthood


- Maintain effective leadership for each youth program. Provide support and assistance as required but permit leaders to handle the day to day needs of the youth programs

- Provide formal (structured) and informal (by example) leadership training for the volunteer leadership team

- Provide formal and informal forums for frequent communication, encouragement and evaluation to the volunteer leadership team. As the coach, create team atmosphere
- Oversee, with the volunteer leaders, the identification of youth with leadership potential and assure opportunities are given for development, and pursuit of serving in areas of gifting

- Evaluate and make recommendations concerning teaching materials and methods used in all of the youth programs, while at the same time being open to feedback from Pastor David Black or Gina Emmanuel

- Be an advisor / resource for all members of the volunteer leadership team

ADMINISTRATIVE (Secondary Responsibility)

- Maintain a well-planned, carefully balanced program throughout the year coordinated with the church calendar of events

- Ensure responsibilities for all events (ex: monthly social events, retreats, worship and special events) are delegated and understood by volunteer leaders and high school students

- Pre-schedule all activities in their entirety, including post-activity plans. Publish same to high school students, parents, and volunteer leaders in a timely fashion

- Provide information and encourage attendance to special events

- Attend all required Pastoral and Leadership meetings, bi-weekly ministry update meetings, and other meetings as requested

- Assist missions committee with field missionary experiences

- With the input and support of the youth ministry team, establish and maintain a philosophy of youth ministry and annual and quarterly objectives

- Attend weekly meetings with volunteer leadership for prayer and planning
- Attend bi-weekly monthly feedback session with Director of Ministry
- Attend meetings with Church leadership per schedule
- Review and discuss annual job performance evaluation
- Present vacation request to the Overseeing Pastor at least one month in advance

- Must be born-again, spirit-filled evangelical believer
- Must be willing to submit to authority and uphold the vision, mission and goals of the organization

Report to: Overseeing Pastor, Children and Youth Ministries
In addition, the Youth Pastor is responsible to meet regularly with the Director of Ministry Development, Children’s and Youth Ministries.
