Job Description:
The Director of Children’s Ministries provides focus and leadership in helping Calvary Church live out its mission to be a Life-giving Community relative to children’s programming. This person serves as staff member, reporting to the Pastor of Ministries. He/She will bring vision, focus and leadership to and provide oversight of children's programming. Additionally, he/she will also have responsibility for the child protection program.

As Calvary Church of Orland Park moves into our new building, we are looking for a new Director of Children’s Ministries with oversight of teams of volunteers and part-time staff to accomplish programming for infants through 5th grade. This is a full-time position with competitive compensation. Experience is expected.

The “ideal” candidate for Children’s Ministry Director would have the following:

1. Vision:
• Vision alignment with Calvary’s vision; embraces Calvary’s values
• Vision should encompass the next generation from birth through age 18
• Focus on both growth in numbers and depth of spiritual development
• Grow youth who know scripture and obey God out of a personal love relationship
• Grow children on a journey of Christ-likeness, willing to sacrifice personal gain for God and others

• Continuity and synergy between children’s and youth programming
• Pursue excellence without stagnation; stay current with developments
• Look for continuous improvement in all areas of ministry
• Partner with parents in the spiritual development of their children
• Evangelist with the heart to reach children

3. Professional credentials:
• Formal training in children’s ministry is a plus, but not a requirement
• College degree in related field or comparable work experience desired

4. Experience:
• Successful experience as children’s ministry director in another church a plus
• Five or more years working directly in children’s ministry (paid or volunteer)
• Demonstrated strength in training, mentoring and team building
• Demonstrated leadership, motivation, organizational skills
• Experience, passion and effectiveness in the oversight and development of children’s programs
• Desire to pursue life-long learning opportunities

• Embraces core reformed tenets e.g. infant baptism
• A mature faith and a teachable spirit
• A growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, demonstrated by biblical knowledge and a consistent verbal and lifestyle witness

6. Duties and responsibilities:
• Ensure each of our multiple Sunday school programs is top notch
• Add alternative programming for children whose parents are at church for two hours
• Expand our special needs programming
• Build volunteer leaders with ministry teams as needed to accomplish expanding children’s programming
• Work with adult discipleship efforts to promote parental education, training and fellowship events
• Ensure effective child protection policies are in force
• Ensure policy compliance of other ministries to children including DVBS, GEMS, Cadets, Moppets, Little Lambs, Story Hour, nurseries, and those to be added
• Attends Calvary worship regularly
