Children’s and Family Ministry Director (CFMD)
A full time ministry leadership employee. This position reports to the Senior Pastor. The paid child care staff reports to the CFMD. The CFMD holds a college degree.
Directs all children’s and family ministries and initiatives and develops continuity between the nursery, pre-school, and grades 1-5. Coordinates with the Student Ministry team to provide continuity between CFM and Student Ministry initiatives (grades 6-12). Creates an environment where children and families may be transformed for life through a connection to Jesus. Builds and leads a strong CFM team. Connects with children and families when and where they congregate. Sets short and long-term goals, anticipating and taking action for the future, while inspiring others.
o Directs all CFM initiatives to align with St. Luke’s Vision.
o Provides for the spiritual leadership and care of CFM staff, volunteers, and participants.
o Creates an environment where children and families may be transformed for life through learning, living, and unleashing God’s love (worship experiences, inviting and encouraging others, thinking of Jesus, learning the Bible and the power of prayer, service projects, giving of treasures, social events)
o Builds strong and trusting relationships with children, parents/guardians, ministry leaders, volunteers, pastors, congregation members, visitors, staff, peers, and, community representatives.
o Establish participation of St. Luke’s CFM ministries in the surrounding communities.
o Uses strong information flow to capture, develop, and follow up on ideas from parents and children.
o Encourages consistent attendance at Sunday School and CFM events.
o Anticipates and takes action for the future while inspiring others to accept and support strategic thinking and planning.
o Recommends, builds, and executes curriculum for CFM programs that is aligned with Lutheran doctrine and the St. Luke’s vision.
o Creates and maintains a strong relationship with other local and national evangelical CFM Ministries and assesses the best practices of these CFM Ministries to determine applicability to St. Luke.
o Manages the administrative duties necessary to plan, budget, organize, and execute CFM programs and initiatives.
o Coordinates logistics, develops metrics, prepares reports, and sets yearly program calendars.
o Establish policies and support needed to assure the safety of the children in the Children’s Ministry programs. Conducts all needed background checks.
o Insures the timely updating of CFM portion of the St. Luke website.
o Leads the Sunday School program and Summer Ministries
1. Actively recruits, enlists and supports teachers, leaders, and helpers
2. Occasionally teaches Sunday School and in the Summer Ministries
3. Supervise the registration process
o Child Care/Nursery
1. Maintain open communication with child care staff
o Family Ministry
1. Connects families to pastoral care and other community and professional resources.
2. Works to connect families into small groups.
3. Provides for the creating and leading of family events.
o All other duties as assigned.
