Crossroads is seeking a Formation Director responsible for the growth of the people of Crossroads. This role encompasses all ages, as well as those who primarily speak Spanish. The role oversees and directs a paid staff of 8 full and part-time roles, and oversees the guidance of over one hundred servants from the Crossroads community. The role will participate in setting the strategic direction of Crossroads. Our goals are to continue to increase participation by all in some form of intentional relationship building with God, and to have people respond, in everyday life ways, to the call God has on their lives.
Crossroads UMC is a 22 year old church community located in a growing suburban area northwest of Washington, DC., near Dulles International Airport. Crossroads was founded as a church plant of the Virginia Conference of the UMC, and the founding pastor continues to lead the congregation. The church is known in the community for a message of relationship as the core component of religion, a contemporary worship style, its HOPE preschool, a very strong serving component, and its partnership with the HUMBLE school in Uganda and its annual Ashburn Farms 10K Thanksgiving Day race.
Within Crossroads we focus on discovering, celebrating, and deepening our everyday life with God. We do this through modeling the spiritual practices as a way to listen for God in our lives, serving with people very different than we are in order to broaden our view of the Kingdom of God here on earth, and learning and sharing our stories together of how Jesus transforms us every day. We have a strong focus on the family as the faith-forming center given our ministry context. We choose to lead through the practice of discernment.
We are seeking a person called to love the people of Northern Virginia and serve in the context of this ministry, in this role. The person will be fully committed to modeling the DNA of Crossroads in their life and choosing to stay on the journey with the paid and non-paid leaders of Crossroads through the ups and downs of life and ministry. The person will have demonstrated the gifts of leadership within a church environment, and have brought new concepts or ideas into reality. The person will be known as one who practices discernment, has walked through the fires of life and whose story reveals a person growing more Christ-like. The person will thrive in an environment that expects change for the sake of the mission, embraces vulnerability and personal struggle, and desires and pursues right relationship in the midst the day to day challenges of church ministry.
