Job Description:


The Church Administrator (CA) functions as the church’s chief operations and financial officer and is specifically responsible for all financial and budgetary issues, facility, personnel, communications, and all other general operational functions. The CA and Senior Minister share the liaison function between the church staff, the major boards and the committees of the church.


The CA reports to the Finance and Administration Committee on all matters that relate to the church operations and responsibilities of the job that are overseen by that committee.
The CA is also expected to maintain a close working relationship with the Senior Minister on matters of ministerial concern.


The CA will be responsible for directly hiring and supervising those who manage the major components of the position. At the present time, those include the Financial Controller, Facilities Manager, Communications Director and other office administration staff. In addition, the CA is responsible for hiring and supervising all subordinates of those managerial positions, although he may delegate those responsibilities as deemed appropriate. The CA also assists the Senior Minister with the selection process and hiring of all ministerial staff.

A bachelor's degree; a minimum of five years' direct financial and administrative management experience, preferably in church or non-profit administration; excellent organizational, analytical, financial, and writing skills; proven ability to meet deadlines, develop and implement program policies and procedures, and manage changing and conflicting priorities; outstanding leadership, supervisory, interpersonal, and communication skills; tact, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters; knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and accounting software and willingness to learn new programs; and experience overseeing a variety of accounting transactions. Advanced training and/or demonstrated experience with IT; a Christian in full agreement with Park Street Church’s statement of faith; willingness and ability to serve Christ and His church; spiritually mature.


The CA will be responsible for:
1. Finance and Administration, Budget and Personnel Committees support and liaison
• attendance at all committee and selected subcommittee meetings;
• functioning as the clerk/secretary for the committees;
• assisting the committee Chair with developing meeting agendas and topics for discussion and providing general support to the committees as needed;
• providing input to meeting discussion regarding issues of the church’s operation and coverage of F&AC duties under the by-laws;
• acting as a liaison between staff and committees with regard to issue input and implementing board actions and decisions.
2. Elder Board support and liaison.
• assisting the Moderator with developing meeting agendas and topics for discussion and providing general support to the board as needed;
• providing input to meeting discussion regarding issues of the church’s operation;
• along with the Senior Minister, acting as a liaison between staff and Elder Board with regard to issue input and implementing board actions and decisions.
3. Leadership and Planning
• Ensure that administrative staffing and facilities are appropriately and effectively aligned to best meet the needs and ministries of the church as determined by the Elders, and to operate the church within the parameters of the annual church budget.
• Oversee facilities projects, contract administration, as well as act as point person with any architects and outside contractors to plan for, and implement, the master plan and any other major facilities work.
• Work with Staff, Elders and F&AC to consider, plan for, and carry out any Capital Campaigns.
• Act as the point person for the Church with regard to ministry partners or other non-Church groups using or requesting to use the Facilities, including Park Street School, and other non-church groups.
• Ascertain and work to apply Biblical goals and vision as a key leader among F&AC, staff and Elders and members of the congregation
4. Missions Committee support and liaison
• occasional attendance at committee and selected subcommittee meetings;
• providing input to meeting discussion regarding issues of the church’s operation;
5. Hiring, firing and supervision of all administrative staff and volunteers;
6. IT administration – direct responsibility for system and individual workstation maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment and software purchasing, upgrading, security, staff outfitting and training.
7. Human resource development functions for entire church staff – personnel administration, staff development, employment policy and procedures manual, dispute resolution, legal compliance;
8. Security; Oversee implementation of security procedures, maintaining security equipment, obtaining background checks and CORI checks on staff and volunteers as may be required by law, insurance, or other regulations.
9. Chief operations officer functions for the church – direct oversight of budgets, cash flow and other financial matters, facilities, communications, personnel management and all church administration functions including purchasing, contract negotiation and implementation, check signing authority, legal representative of the congregation at non-church meetings;
10. Together with the Moderator, Elders, F&AC, and Senior Minister, planning and preparation for the church’s annual and special meetings and elections;
11. Being on-call and functioning as a point of contact for all emergencies involving the church facilities, staff, boards and committees;
12. Arranging for or actually functioning as a back up option for completing mission critical tasks and responsibilities of other staff under his oversight;


1. Candidate will be required to provide a statement concerning their Christian faith and theology, and must be in agreement with Park Street Church’s statement of faith;
2. Candidate will be expected to be or soon become a member of Park Street Church, become vitally involved and participate in the general life and ministry of the church and become increasingly familiar with members of the congregation and regular attendees;
3. Involvement in other ministry tasks and interests will be strongly encouraged as time, job responsibilities and personal commitment allow;
4. Participation in regular staff meetings and personal development activities is expected.
