Job Description:
Overview and Purpose of Position:

The Director of Operations should be dedicated to advance the work of the church by using his talents and experience in the areas of Communications, Information Technology and Facilities. He serves to carry out the vision of Rocky Peak, both directly and through others. He is responsible to initiate, coordinate, and manage the strategic operations and solutions delivery that lead to excellence in ministry.

Operations include:

•The development and use of diverse communication skills and methods to enhance ministry. This includes websites, signage, branding and other electronic forms of communication, along with all types of print media.
•The design, implementation and support of all information technology systems. Including LAN/WAN, FellowshipOne, IT Support Services, Business Continuity and Hardware
•The Assimilation systems that facilitate congregational movement through the Growth Path.
•The supervision of professional management of real estate, including preventative maintenance, cost-saving measures, and space allocation, daily operational use of facilities, scheduling and Evacuation/Disaster Planning.


Skills, Strengths, Gifts, Traits, Experience, etc.

•Experience of, at minimum, 10 years in leadership positions in secular or Christian settings, with specific experience in management and people development.
•Skills include the ability to lead, to think conceptually as well as in specifics, to negotiate well with diverse groups of people, to write and speak clearly, to organize well and to make good things happen.
•Ability to work well in a team consisting of the staff and lay leadership of the church, and ability to establish and maintain good relationships with the congregation at large.
•Demonstrated ability to work independently while supervising others and maintaining efficiency, high morale and a strong teamwork ethic.
•Must possess solid time management skills and organizational abilities. The ability to coordinate several activities at once and to quickly analyze and resolve specific problems is important.
•The ideal candidate should be creative, detail oriented, flexible, and decisive with the ability to organize and coordinate work, set priorities, and motivate others.
•Pastoral experience, listening skills and discernment to handle counseling and “pastor of the day” calls and walk-ins.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher).
•Teachable, with a desire to grow in faith, talents, and abilities.
•Is a Christian and a member of The Church at Rocky Peak and attends services regularly.
•Has a growing walk with Christ, which is exemplified by a life of obedience and example.
•Demonstrated heart for faith-based service.
•A person of integrity, diplomacy and discretion.
•Must have a record of proven performance.

MAJOR FOCUS and RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Responsibilities
•Meet on a regular basis with the team under his direction to provide support, encouragement, training, accountability and direction for their ministries.
•Develops budgets and works within those guidelines while establishing goals and implementing strategies
•Responsible for all ministry budgets for his team. Will hold team members accountable for the development and management of their individual and team budgets.
•Responsible for working with each staff member on team to maintain a balanced work schedule, and to insure that work is being completed in a timely and professional manner.
•Meet regularly with Executive Pastor to apprise him of status of church operations and team activities.
•Act as Strategic Solutions Delivery Specialist in consulting with all areas of ministry.
•All Vendor Relations and contracts

Communications Responsibilities
•Provide leadership and management in the area of external/internal communications and marketing through print and electronic means.
•External Communications includes but is not limited to the effective use of print, direct mail, and web. In essence, this speaks to the ‘marketing’ of Rocky Peak through effective positioning and branding within the community, nation and world.
•Internal Communications includes but is not limited to the ongoing improvement of communication between the Rocky Peak staff and the Rocky Peak family; improving interpersonal/inter-office communication by establishing protocols for effective e-mail, messaging, voice mail and Intranet development and usage.
•Assesses and advises with respect to other communication materials produced by and for Rocky Peak
•Assesses overall quality and effectiveness of materials, identifies new or additional needs, and correlates the compatibility of these materials with the overall vision of Rocky Peak in terms of content, quality, and function. Develops and implements plans for improvement.
•Keeps current on creative communication and technological trends and looks for opportunities to use this information to more effectively communicate with the community and Rocky Peak family.
•Oversee the design and management of the Rocky Peak web sites and continue to seek new technologies and opportunities to improve the effectiveness of web-related communication with all ministries.
•Oversee the Calendar department to ensure Rocky Peak’s day-to-day scheduling and management process is effective.
•Oversee the Communications Manager and the production of printed and electronic publications. This includes the daily updating of the church’s websites, the weekly church communication tools (WeekendView and eView), visitor information and all other mass publications.
•Serve as creative/communications/marketing counsel for other ministries and as they seek to effectively brand and communicate. Ensure consistent branding.

Information Technology Responsibilities:
•Oversee the Information Services/Technology department to ensure Rocky Peak’s infrastructure is functional and database information is readily available.
•Oversee the external IT support company (Helpdesk and general IT support servies)
•Responsible for all computer hardware
•Responsible for all LAN/WAN
•Responsible for the implementation of new technology
•Responsible for phone system infrastructure
•Oversee FellowshipOne for data integrity and best practices
•Ensure Business Continuity Plan in place and tested

Facility Responsibilities:
•Responsible for maintaining an orderly, efficient work facility that is attractive and comfortable for staff and visitors, and that is conducive for smooth flow of information.
•Provide recommendations to the Executive Pastor and oversight to the Facilities Manager as it relates to the aesthetics of the interior of the administrative offices, including decorations, furniture, maintenance, cleaning and atmosphere.
•Serve as a purchasing agent for the church for supplies and equipment.
•General Security
•Responsible to see that all office equipment is properly maintained and in good order.
•Maintain instructions, maintenance contracts, warranties and servicing information for church owned equipment
•Manage inventory of all office supplies.
•As requested, establish and maintain office procedures.
•Oversee the office receptionist.
•Oversee the campus operations of the all church properties
•Work with the Facilities Manager and other Property Managers to insure that the facilities and grounds are kept in good condition through systems of cleaning, maintenance and improvements, and provide leadership for hired staff responsible for these areas.
•Authorize necessary repairs to be done in the most economical manner and within the limitations of the church budget.
•Provide direct support and supervision to the Facilities Manager and Property Managers.
•Serve as liaison to City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County or any other governmental agencies regarding property, right-of-ways, easements or any other concern that arises.
•Insure that our control of energy management is efficient, economical and flexible, and that it enables us to maintain ministry priorities and core values.
•Set-up and implement an “Asset Replacement” plan to forecast needs and allocate dollars for large item replacements or repair (HVAC, roof, carpet, etc.)
•Manage the transportation process, ensuring that vehicles needed for ministry are ready and available upon request. This includes church-owned vehicles and chartered vehicles.
•Serve as liaison with SWAT Team, a volunteer-led ministry team that engages in maintenance and repair projects.
•Serve as liaison with cell phone companies (current and prospective).
•Create and maintaing Evacuation/Disaster Recovery Plans

Assimilation Responsibilities:
•Works with staff to identify and implement effective assimilation strategies.
•Oversees Assimilation Ministry and works with the Assimilation Adminintrative Assistant to maintain accurate records.
