Student Ministry Director – 7th grade through College/Early Career

Invite students into a relationship with God and others.
Create an environment where students can mature in their relationship with Christ.
Unleash students to live out their faith in service to others.

Description of duties
• ? Research and assess the needs and problems confronting the target age group.
• ? Study and identify the needs of youth in the greater community.
• ? Coordinate long-range Connect, Grow, Go plans for the student ministry program.
• ? Involve students in the planning and implementation of all programs and ministries.
• ? Involve the students in decision-making for the student ministry.
• ? Communicate with parents about goals, activities, and events of the student ministry.
• ? Partner with the Connect Director to reach out and invite students into personal and supportive relationships. Including but not limited to; retreats, large group events and assimilation.
• ? Partner with the Grow Director to create an environment where students can mature in their faith. Including but not limited to; selecting curriculum, Bible study, small group, and/or other appropriate spiritual growth and discipleship materials.
• ? Provide educational opportunities based on the needs of the students involved in the student ministry, including Sunday morning/weekend Sunday school classes, mid-week programs, small Bible study and fellowship groups.
• ? Partner with the Go Director to unleash students to live out their faith in service to others. Including but not limited to; service to the church body, local missions and mission trips.
• ? Recruit and train counselors, teachers, and other volunteers who will assist in carrying out the ministry to students.
• ? Ensure all student ministry programs are safe, fun, active, interactive, and memorable.
• ? Walk alongside and help provide guidance for students as they question and test the limits and opportunities of growing into adulthood.
• ? Serve as a liaison with people, organizations, and resources both within and outside the church that relate to preteens and teenagers and student ministry.

• ? Ensure that volunteers comply with the church’s policies on working with preteens and teenagers, including screening, background checks, safety training, etc.
• ? To be a praying, tithing, and participating member of the church. This includes attending at least one service each Sunday (either morning or evening) and taking advantage of Bible studies classes, teacher training workshops, spiritual growth classes, etc.

Time requirements
The Student Ministries Director is a full time, salaried position with benefits. An expectation of 40-60 hours per week shall be maintained for success.

Training and resources
Attend appropriate seminars and workshops on student ministry; attend government training and seminars on safety and security for working with adolescents; purchase magazines, books, tapes, and other resources for professional development and to distribute among youth ministry staff and volunteers.

• ? A burning passion and desire to share the church’s concern and God’s love with preteens and teenagers.
• ? Willingness to invest, sometimes even sacrificing the commodity of time, to work with youth.
• ? Honesty, openness, acceptance, trustworthiness, truthfulness.
• ? Excellent communication skills.
• ? Able to work with a wide variety of “constituents”: pastoral staff, volunteer workers, parents and grandparents, preteens, teenagers.
• ? Comply with a background check and other volunteer screening for safety and security of students.
• ? One or more of the gifts of administration, discernment, encouragement, evangelism, faith, helps, knowledge, leadership, mercy, shepherding, teaching, and/or wisdom.
