Job Description:
Apex United Methodist Church, which passionately worships with approximately 1,100 people each weekend in the fast growing Raleigh-Durham NC area, is seeking a part-time 20-25 hour a week Family Ministries Coordinator for its newest campus/faith community-The Peak. The Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training and equipping leaders to lead the children and youth ministries as well as to equip parents to be the primary shepherds for the spiritual formation of their children. The selected candidate must be a mature Christian with a clear sense of calling to serve Christ with a ministry to children, students, and their families.

Overall Description
The Peak Family Ministries Coordinator is a part-time position that will partner with the Apex UMC Family of Faith Communities. Discipleship and Family Ministries team to guide all aspects of family ministries at Peak UMC. This person’s primary responsibility will be to recruit, train and equip leaders to lead the children and youth ministries as well as to equip parents to be the primary shepherds for the spiritual formation of their children. The selected candidate will also be a member of the Regional Apex UMC Family of Faith Communities Discipleship and Family Ministries team to help shape an age appropriate cradle to grave discipleship approach across the church and its faith communities.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Invite, equip, and coach gifted lay people to serve in assigned children’s ministries. The primary focus will be on
coordinating and leading our 10am Sunday morning programs for Pre-school children (Foothills), Elementary children
(Base Camp), and partnering with the Apex/S.Hughes St. Nursery Coordinator for our nursery (Stepping Stones).
2. Invite and equip lay people to prepare to lead and serve in children’s ministries during the planned launch of a second
Peak worship service in 2011.
3. Liaison with Nursery Coordinator to make sure appropriate childcare is available for Peak programs/events.
4. Work with gifted lay people to design/refine, manage and evaluate the children’s ministry programs.
5. Serve as a member and meet weekly with the Family Ministries team to continually refine all of the faith communities’
ministries for children, students and their families.
6. Ensure the Safe Sanctuaries policies are enforced for the church at all activities involving students.
7. Assist in the planning and implementation of Family Ministry Special events at The Peak.
8. Invite, equip and coach gifted lay people to serve in assigned youth ministries. The primary focus will be on coordinating
and leading the Sunday Evening Peak Youth programs. This will include equipping lay leadership to plan and implement
programming, as well as implement strategies for reaching out and caring for our students.
9. Seek ways for students to begin serving younger youth/children and in the overall ministries and worship of the church.
10. Work with student ministries leaders to continuously evaluate and refine the church’s student ministries.

Position Requirements
1. Passion for children’s and student’s Christian spiritual formation.
2. An understanding of child development and current in children’s teaching techniques and children’s ministry approaches.
Familiarity or experience with Orange/Re:think Group Family Strategies preferred.
3. Passion and ability for mobilizing and equipping volunteers and staff with gifts for children’s ministry.
4. Experience in building teams.
5. Have superior interpersonal skills, be an articulate and mature communicator.
6. Have excellent administration skills with a fine eye for detail.
7. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and be organized, flexible and personable.
8. Bachelor’s degree preferred with two years relevant work or volunteer experience.
9. Computer skills - familiarity with Microsoft Office products and internet social media sites.
