Job Description:
To provide godly leadership in developing, implementing, administrating and shepherding a comprehensive worship program of blended and traditional worship, which will magnify our Lord and edify the body of believers, through excellence in all creative arts in accordance with God’s Word, the Statement of Faith, Constitution, Vision and Core Values of Wayside Chapel EFCA.

QUALIFICATIONS: A personal relationship with and love for the Lord that is growing and a desire to see others have this relationship by preparing and leading people into God’s presence through worship. Agreement with and commitment to Wayside’s Statement of Faith, vision and values. Commitment to the community of Wayside Chapel through regular attendance, giving and participation in the body life of our church. The Scriptural qualifications for an elder as outlined in 1 Tim. 3:1-7, Tit. 1:5-9 and 1 Peter 5:1-4 and the Wayside Chapel Constitution and By-laws. Commitment to moral purity and, if married, to a healthy relationship with his wife and family. Personal maturity, spiritual gifts, and breadth of experience to serve in a teaching and mentoring role with the Wayside family leading worship by worshiping. Interest and ability to lead blended and traditional musical styles, having an appreciation for the traditions of the past, a knowledge of the expressions of today and a vision for the songs and musicians of tomorrow. A high level of musical background or training. A degree in music is desirable. Able to read and write musical arrangements. Proficient in leading and conducting ensembles, choir and orchestra. At least three years experience as a Minister of Music in a medium to large size church. Related experience, such as internships, Assistant Director of Music or other similar work in the field of music will be considered in evaluating total experience. Strong work ethic and ability to develop and work on a team toward specific goals in a mutually supportive and edifying manner. Possess a teachable and responsive heart that is always seeking to develop.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Work closely with and under the direct supervision of the Senior Pastor to prepare, conduct and evaluate the worship services of our church.
Prepare for weekly worship and rehearsals both musically and personally through prayer and facilitating spiritually accurate and meaningful presentation of the worship music for our blended and traditional services. Able to create and sustain a strong volunteer culture, recruiting, developing and scheduling volunteers as needed. Coordinate and supervise all weekly and special worship activities and services, working closely with the Director of Media Ministries and Wayside’s staff and volunteers to plan, prepare and facilitate all aspects of rehearsals and worship. Research current trends and improvements in church music methods and cast visionary ideas to the Senior Pastor, church leadership and Worship Ministries’ Team to meet the current and future needs of our ministry. Prepare and/or select and/or commission scripts and musical arrangements for seasonal productions. Oversee and develop all music groups, choirs, vocal and instrumental ensembles, drama and arts teams. Develop and mentor emerging worship leaders; working with our college, student ministries and children’s departments. Serve as a resource support and equip other Wayside ministries, looking for ways to integrate music, media and personnel to support needs as they arise. Supervise the use of sets, props, lighting, media and other presentation elements for the blended traditional services to create an environment conducive to worship. Submit an annual evaluation of the Worship Ministry Department to the Senior Pastor and update the goals for the Worship Ministry Department. Prepare and oversee an annual ministry plan and budget for the Worship Arts ministry.

PROMOTE FELLOWSHIP AND OUTREACH: Develop, implement and oversee a program of outreach to participants in the music ministry and prospective members in the church and community. Lead social and appreciation events for volunteers and Worship Ministry participants. Build relationships with the people and various music ministries of Wayside Chapel and the church community at large in the interest of developing unity in the body of Christ in San Antonio and beyond. Develop musicians and network with leaders in order to continually mature and expand the influence of his ministry. Attend/schedule staff, planning and necessary meetings. Work closely with the entire pastoral staff to minister to the Wayside body through one-on-one discipleship, counseling, evangelism, hospital visitation and friendship.
