Job Description:
Overview of the Position

The Associate Teaching and Connection Pastor will serve as part of the pastoral staff of New Life, meaning he will shepherd families and have a caring heart for the whole body. His primary responsibilities will be preaching / teaching and connecting people into the body of New Life, specifically in relationships, discipleship, and shepherding.

He will function under the direct leadership of the Senior Pastor and under the overall governance of the Elder Board. As part of the church’s pastoral staff, he will partner in the overall work of the church, coordinating ministry with each of the other pastors (children’s, youth, worship).

His essential duties, responsibilities, and roles are more specifically defined by category:

Preaching / Teaching
• He will be part of a teaching team with the Senior Pastor, partnering with him, under his leadership, to edify the body in the glory of God and equip the saints for the work of ministry.
• He will be the lead pastor to start a new Saturday Night service. In this he will directly lead a team of shepherds, greeters, children’s workers, and other volunteers. His leadership, vision for ministry, doctrine, and teaching will remain under the leadership of the Senior Pastor and the overall governance of the Elder board, but he will launch this service in the role of lead pastor for the service.
• He will continually seek for creative and clear ways to proclaim God’s Word in such a way that the congregation experiences the presence of God.
• He will oversee and set the course of the teaching for the services in which he serves as the primary teaching pastor. This will be done in concert with the Senior Pastor. Regularly they will preach through common passages, maintaining the unity of the body through harmonious teaching.
• He will oversee all elements of the services in which he is the primary teaching pastor, working in concert with the senior pastor, the associate pastor of worship, and the overall governance of the Elder board.

Connection
• He will oversee the entire process of connecting attendees into the body, specifically into relationships, discipleship, and shepherding. This is for the whole church, including Sunday services.
• As part of this he will oversee Meet the Leaders Dinners, New Member’s Classes, Shepherding, Connection Classes, and guest follow-up in the specific role of assimilating people into the body.
• He will develop, launch, and advance a church wide small group ministry.
• He will oversee and develop shepherds in the shepherding ministry.

Pastoral Care
• He will function as a pastor for the whole body, but specifically will build relationships, council, visit and otherwise pastor the people who attend services in which he is the lead pastor.
• He will oversee pastoral counseling within those services, having a standard policy of referring people to specialized counselors after three sessions. Natural exceptions to this will occur, especially in the case of established classes such as pre-marriage counseling or discipleship orientated relationships.
• He is responsible for visitation within the services he leads. He will equip and encourage others to minister in this capacity (it being a chief duty of the elders and shepherds) and in return will serve them by responding to special and significant needs.
• He will work to establish relationships with unchurched people.
• He will oversee special services such as weddings and funerals as needed within the body, primarily for the people attending services in which he is the lead teacher.

Leadership
• He will be the visionary leader, as confirmed by the senior pastor, and Elder board for the service in which he is the primary teacher.
• He will develop, shepherd, serve, and encourage teams and team leaders ministering with him in these services.

Financial Arrangements

Salary

We want to take care of our people (1 Corinthians 9:10-14; 1 Timothy 5:17-18; 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13;). It is our desire that staff compensation will motivate them to minister to the best of their ability and be content with their pay status.

An annual salary in the range of 42 to 48k, plus benefits and ministry expenses, will be provided by the church to help the pastor and his family maintain a reasonable lifestyle in our community. This salary can be broken up as salary and housing allowance to fit the pastor's situation and for his optimum living and tax advantage.

Here you will find information about New Life and get a feel for the culture of our church. Of specific interest would be:

1. Under About Us / What We Believe you will find a Teaching Doctrinal Statement. This is an in-depth statement for elders, pastoral staff, and teachers in the church. Because of the teaching nature of this position it will be essential that there is unity with the doctrine in this statement.

2. Under Sermons you will find several months of our sermons. Because the Associate Teaching and Connection Pastor will be working so closely with our senior pastor Greg Lavine, it would be beneficial to be familiar with and feel comfortable with his teaching.
