Job Description:
First Evangelical Free Church (First Free) is a young, contemporary, urban congregation of approximately 325 people in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood. First Free’s campus is used for worship, classrooms, outreach, office space and rental properties. Total square footage is approximately 50,000 for five buildings. First Free has a rich heritage of initiating and supporting numerous ministries both in the city and around the world. We believe God has strategically placed us in a culturally, socially and economically diverse location presenting us with many opportunities to serve our community.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Pastor, the Director of Operations will have responsibility for the financial, administrative and physical well-being of First Free. The individual will provide leadership, supervision and support to the administrative assistant, custodian and volunteer teams. This is a full time position with benefits.

•Financial and Administrative Oversight
o Work with the treasurer/staff/elders to ensure sound financial management and accounting books and records
o Design and prepare periodic financial reports and communicate status to the elders/staff/congregation
o Provide counsel and support to elder board on all financial stewardship decisions and communication plans
o Manage payroll, accounts payable function, employee benefits and property insurance
o Serve as the general office manager and oversee volunteer accounting and finance teams
o Ensure effective information technology systems are in place
o Manage and oversee the annual budget process and the financial audit process

•Facilities Planning and Management
o Develop and implement plans and programs for maintaining, improving and providing security for church properties
o Prepare and execute budgeting priorities to maximize effective use of resources related to facilities and campus
o Recruit and empower volunteer facility teams, staff and contractors
o Lead contract negotiations and sourcing for contractors involving church facilities
o Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of building equipment
o Oversee and contract custodial staff in routine and non-routine maintenance and cleaning tasks

•Staff Support and Development
o Develop plans for compensation and benefits, performance evaluations, staff development and goal setting
o Oversee volunteer teams in finance, facilities, information technology

• College degree
