Associate Head of School for Spiritual Life

Goal: Oaks Christian School, an independent, Christian, college preparatory school serving grades 6-12 is seeking an experienced and gifted leader to direct our comprehensive spiritual life activity throughout the school community. This professional will lead, serve, equip and empower our administration, faculty, staff, volunteers and parents such that our Christ-centered foundations permeate the academic excellence, athletic achievement and artistic expression that we’re known for.


1. Has supervisory authority to lead the Directors of Spiritual Life, Bible faculty, Missions Director, Outreach staff, Chaplain, Mentoring and all other positions created for the purpose of Spiritual Life; and has organizational (functional) responsibility for bible classes and non-class activities such as chapels, advisories, missions trips, outreaches, class retreats, leadership development, and the like.

2. Has functional responsibility to cast vision, serve, teach, train, equip and empower fellow administrators, faculty, staff, volunteers and student/parent community such that every student has the experience we pray and envision for them, including:

1. The Compelling and Encouraging Witness of Jesus Christ
2. The Love of a Christ-centered Community
3. Proclamation and Compelling Teaching of Biblical Truth
4. Integration of Biblical Truth and the Christian Worldview Into All Aspects of Curriculum and Culture
5. Clear Standards of Citizenship and Discipline
6. Opportunities for Increased Self-Awareness
7. Worship
8. Prayer
9. Celebrations
10. Leadership Development
11. Clear Growth Paths and Next Steps to Follow Spiritual Decisions.

3. Will work with the Head of School and the school principals to leverage OCS activities, events, meetings and structures to assure a purposeful and school-wide execution of the Comprehensive Spiritual Plan.
4. Responsible to appoint and lead an advisory body (equivalent to the Academic Senate) to include Bible Department, the Spiritual Life Director, an Academic Dean, a Dean of Discipline, at least two non-Bible faculty members, and at least one coach and one member of the arts department.
5. Roles, Goals and Boundaries will be regularly updated and sustained so that all faculty members and staff understand their role in the Comprehensive Spiritual Plan.
6. Will fulfill the function of “Faculty Chaplain,” the one who sees to the ongoing equipping, empowering and nurturing of the Spiritual Health of our faculty and staff or will delegate that function.
7. The Associate Head of School will serve on the Board of Directors’ Spiritual Life Committee with other Board members, and be invited to nominate other members to the Committee from either his/her staff or from the OCS extended support community.
8. Other duties as they emerge from the hiring and on-boarding process in accordance with the candidate’s skill sets and the school’s need.

Reporting directly to the Head of School, the right candidate will likely be an effective communicator, organizational leader, strategic implementer, pastoral mentor, culture creator, consistent motivator and effective team member. He or she will possess excellent relational skills, ability to manage within an efficient academic structure and a heart to serve faculty, staff and the school community. Knowledge of (and experience in) Educational environments as well as Ministry leadership positions is desirable. 15 years experience is required.
