Job Title: Director, Local Outreach & Evangelism
Reports To: Senior Director of Outreach
General Summary: Provides vision, leadership, and effective management of Trinity’s outreach in the Greater Lansing area. Mobilizes efforts of individuals, Trinity church ministries, small/growth groups and other community, and church based organizations for evangelism and transformational engagement in our city and communities. Empowers the development and release of missional partnerships by Trinity attendees.
Develops a cohesive outreach plan that integrates Trinity’s spiritual formation priorities (Discover, Develop, and Deploy). Provides the necessary training and equipping for Trinity staff and key non-paid ministry partners (volunteers) to ensure broad understanding and buy-in of direction, milestones, and goals of local outreach vision and strategy.
Oversees and develops Outreach associated classes (Deploy-Discover phases), training modules and experiential opportunities for Trinity attendees to learn and practice Biblical principles of evangelism and service. Organizes and personally oversees at least one course per year that emphasizes the discovery and core beliefs of the Christian faith (e.g. Starting Point).
Advocates and directs the implementation and coordination of a strong evangelism agenda pan-Trinity, in close collaboration with the teaching team, department directors, and especially the small groups’ leadership team.
Serves as a resource for, and assists with planning as requested, for small/growth group outreach and evangelism opportunities and teaching in order to help develop a priority and passion for evangelism among congregational groups.
Increases congregational awareness, understanding, and involvement in outreach and evangelism through effective communications, enhanced resourcing for attendees, and clear visioneering.
Provides leadership and direction to ‘outreach’ weekends and events including, but not limited to Christmas Eve services, Easter weekends, quarterly ‘serves’, and the Christmas Journey. Assures follow-up and coordination with appropriate Trinity ministries.
Articulates clear process for the development of new ministry ideas by Trinity attendees, empowers and equips visionaries to launch out, assuring appropriate deployment.
Supervises Trinity’s efforts to link serving/volunteer opportunities in the community and in the church with Trinity attendees.
Supervises Trinity’s efforts to be a collaborating and engaged church with local area ministries, and churches ensuring the highest standards of partnership and collective witness.
Develops, leads, and empowers the Local Outreach team to fulfill assigned roles and responsibilities, ensuring overall ministry focus and alignment, team growth and development, and annual plan fulfillment.
Provides mentoring in leadership and effective ministry to non-paid ministry partners (volunteers) who lead outreach-related teams within Trinity (Sports Outreach Leadership Team, University Outreach Leadership Team, Bingham Outreach Leadership Team, etc.).
Develops, submits and monitors an annual plan and budget for the local outreach and evangelism team(s); ensures sufficient resources are available to achieve ministry goals.
Works in conjunction with the larger Outreach Team and other Trinity departments to assure a coordinated, cooperative, and integrated ministry. Keeps current on best evangelism and outreach practices and helps Trinity be a resource for other area churches.
Performs other duties as may be assigned or required.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; formal theological or Biblical education desirable.
Experience: Minimum of five years of progressively more responsible experience in evangelism, missions, or outreach work is required. Experience in implementing strategy and leading teams essential.
Work Skills: Demonstrated spiritual maturity, a commitment and passion to reach the lost, and a genuine love for the local church and its mandate must be evident. Proven leadership skill in handling people, challenges, and opportunities is essential. Administrative skills to strategize, plan, manage teams, and monitor budgets is necessary.
Ability to communicate well, to motivate people toward engagement, to resolve conflict, and to teach large and small groups effectively are required. Effective written and oral communication skills are essential. Must be able to cross racial, cultural, and social boundaries with ease, tact, and diplomacy.
Mental and/or Physical Attributes: Must be flexible and willing to engage at different levels of activity for the overall success of departmental and church objectives and goals. Occasional travel anticipated.
