Job Description:
Director of Finance

This position, reporting to the COO, is accountable for leading the Finance team in managing the Ministry’s financial and accounting policies, systems and processes, tax and regulatory requirements, payroll systems and processes, controls, ongoing financial modeling, budgeting and visibility consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Community Bible Study.

Key Accountabilities:

Accounting, Payroll, Financial Systems and Financial Controls:

Responsible for the delivery of cost effective and efficient accounting and financial systems, policies and processes that meet the current and future business requirements of the Ministry.

• Oversee the External Audit, review and analyze results and recommend for approval the Audited Financial Statements.
• Prepare the financial section of the annual report.
• Oversee the Cash Management function, including banking relationships.
• Ensure the Ministry is in compliance with all internal policies and relevant regulations and ensure filings are completed in a timely manner.
• Develop and oversee the Internal Review function to ensure that finance and operations controls and policies are complied with in the field. Ensure effective follow up processes are in place.
• Manage the payroll function ensuring efficient systems, process and controls.
• Manage the financial system, ensuring maximum productivity and that it meets the needs of the Ministry today and the future.
• Oversee the continuous improvement of Accounting and Financial Processes and the development of the team with the goal to achieve best practices and optimal output.
• Develop and oversee accounting policies.

Cash Management

• Develop cash flow forecasting and maintain a long term cash forecast
• Develop and maintain systems to provide visibility and to alert senior leadership to any issues or opportunities as early as possible
• Assist in the review of contracts and solicit external legal advice as required. Review financials of preferred vendors as needed.
• Manage ongoing banking relationships for maximum efficiency

Management Reporting

• Responsible for financial management reporting for the Ministry
• Ensure financial management reporting tools and processes are in place to support the ongoing and future needs of the Ministry
• Develop and prepare a monthly management reporting package.
• Present monthly and year-to-date financials with accompanying analysis of results
• Develop regular reporting and analysis, including key metrics reports, and conduct ad hoc financial analysis as required

Budgeting and Financial Modeling

• Lead the annual business plan development and budgeting process
• Lead the quarterly outlook process
• Provide ongoing financial modeling and analysis expertise
• Lead the financial modeling and analysis to support the development of long term strategic initiatives and business plans

Customer Service & Communication

• Participate as a member of the MSC Leadership Team
• Ensure consistent service delivery in a consultative and solutions-based capacity to all levels of staff and volunteers with regard to financially related Ministry plans, policies and procedures by the Finance Team.

General

• Demonstrate a ministry mindset and servant leadership, where no task is "too small"
• Support and endorse the Mission, Vision, and Values of Community Bible Study
• Support the Board of Trustees, and specifically the Finance Committee, the Audit and Compliance Committee, and the Treasurer, providing information as needed
• Work with the Ministry Directors and departments throughout the Ministry Service Center (MSC)
• Work with the national ministry teams and the Ministry Servants Team (MST)
• Other special projects as assigned

Competency/Knowledge Requirements

• Licensed CPA. If not licensed in Colorado, eligible for Colorado CPA license.
• Ten years working knowledge in accounting and finance with at least five years supervisory experience.
• Five years or more in non-profit accounting.
• Sound knowledge compliance regulations for organizations working within the not-for-profit sector
• Proficiency with ACCPAC accounting software (or equivalent)
• Experience with inventory/fulfillment is a plus
• 3 years of experience running a complex general ledger
• Proficiency with standard and fund accounting principles, methods and applications
• Accuracy and efficiency in entering data into and maintaining a variety of accounting and financial records and transactions in accordance with GAAP
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, a collaborative style and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
• Ability to effortlessly utilize Windows, spreadsheet, database and word-processing, e-mail, and Internet programs and applications
• Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments in an accurate and timely manner
• Ability to work cooperatively under pressure and to meet tight deadlines
• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a multi-task team oriented environment

• Experience with strategy development and implementation
• Understanding and experience with re-engineering processes and large scale systems change
