Job Description:

The Children’s Ministry Pastor shall be responsible for leading and growing the ministry for children, birth through 6th grade, at Hillcrest Covenant Church. The vibrant children’s ministry is seeking a devoted follower of Christ that brings new and innovative ministry elements to our program. The ministry spans both the Prairie Village and Blue Valley sites, focusing on leading our children to grow spiritually and ministering to our children and their families. The Children’s Ministry Pastor will report to the Pastor of Spiritual Development or the Senior Pastor.


Leadership -A leader who completely supports the Hillcrest mission “to know Christ and to make him known.” Establishes a vision and strategic direction for the Children’s Ministry. This includes overseeing the Preschool, Parent’s Day Out, Children’s Sunday School, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) and weeknight events. Enhance Sunday morning programs through dynamic curriculum, creative mediums, and new learning styles and techniques. Acts as the catalyst for new initiatives that provide spiritual development for children and their families.

Supervision- Supervise the Children’s ministry staff. Coordinate the efforts of the Directors at both the Prairie Village and Blue Valley campuses. Is present and visible on Sunday mornings and at Children’s ministry events to lead, encourage, and problem solve. Coordinate special events, VBS, music and drama programs. Oversee the nursery, children’s library and the children’s mission projects.

Team Building- Identifies, recruits and develops leaders and volunteers, enabling them to reproduce additional leaders.

Shepherding and Communication- Demonstrate love for kids and their families. Identify children and parents in need of support and ensure their needs are met. Assist families in crisis by providing godly counsel.

Ministry Integration-Integrates individual ministry programs and initiatives by working closely with other Hillcrest pastoral staff and ministry teams. Ensures staffing, facilities, and programs are appropriately and effectively aligned with other ministries.


1.Fully devoted to following Jesus in everything they do. A person of character with a thorough knowledge of scriptures.
2.5 years full-time experience in Children’s Ministry.
3.Previous experience supervising staff and volunteers in a church setting.
4.College Degree or equivalent. Theological training desirable.
5.A strong leader who is capable of casting vision and seeing it through to completion.
6.A team player with strong relational skills who is friendly and approachable.
7.Strong communicator with the skills necessary to inspire others and communicate goals. Patient listener.
8.A pastor with the desire and heart to shepherd children and families.
9.An experienced team builder with demonstrated abilities to build and lead teams.
10.Good organizational and time management skills.
11.Flexibility in an ever-changing ministry environment, and the ability to think creatively. Can take direction and feedback well and has a great desire to learn.
